A new team of guest editors is set to take over the Today programme
over the festive season.
For one week only, from Monday 27 to Friday 31 December, the programme
will be edited by Sir Richard Branson, Anthony
Minghella, Bono, Baroness Onora O'Neill
and Sarah, Duchess of York.
The five guest editors, invited by Today Editor Kevin Marsh, will choose
some of the issues to be tackled on the programme.
The programme's usual editorial team of day and night editors will
work closely with them to ensure their material is newsworthy and stays
within the 91热爆 Producers' Guidelines.
Bono says: "I have to confess, I'm not a natural editor... I want to
start the countdown to next year, when Britain can change the world
for the poorest people on the planet."
Sarah, Duchess of York says: "Today is the most important news programme
in Britain so I couldn't resist the chance to use it to highlight serious
issues like the terribly debilitating Motor Neurone disease."
Kevin Marsh says: "Last year's experiment drew such interest from well
known listeners we thought we would try it again, with a great range
of new guest editors."
And, following on from 2003's Listeners' Law, this year the programme
offers the audience the chance to vote for a 'Listeners' Lord'.
Listeners suggest a man or woman they think should be nominated for
a peerage by the House of Lords Appointments Commission.
The suggested candidates will be judged by a panel including Kevin
Marsh and crossbench peers Baroness Elaine Murphy, Lord Richard Best
and Lord Robert May. They will choose a shortlist of five on merit.
Listeners will then vote on the final shortlist and the winner's case
will be put forward to the House of Lords Appointments Commission for
consideration.
