CBeebies Bedtime Hour is running a week of stories especially for the
Hindu festival of Diwali from 8 to 12 November.
The stories are written by Rani Singh to teach children
about Diwali.
Each story is self-contained and over the week viewers will follow
the adventures of the monkey Hanuman.
Rani, children's presenter and author and former EastEnders actress,
also reads the stories and is thrilled to have been given the opportunity
to bring Diwali to CBeebies:
"This is a very special commission because for the first time it writes
the story of the Hindu festival of lights specifically for children
aged nought to six years.
"It's a great way to introduce them to this epic story and they
will easily identify with the adventures of Hanuman."
CBeebies producer Diana Hinshelwood says: "The Diwali festival is steeped
in tradition, which in turn provides a rich source of stories that are
filled with magic and colour.
"The stories will have particular resonance for our Hindu viewers
and will also introduce other children to wonderful stories from a different
culture."
Bedtime Hour is on CBeebies daily between 6.00 and 7.00pm.
