Graham Roberts
- who played gamekeeper George Barford in The Archers for 31 years -
died in hospital in York this afternoon aged 75.
听
He leaves his wife Yvonne Robert.
听
Graham Roberts was a a continuity
announcer on Yorkshire Television for 22 years and was
a presenter of news and features programmes for Grampian Television.
听
As an actor he also appeared in Z Cars, A Taste of Honey
and A Touch of Brass.
听
He toured the United States, UK
and Canada extensively with his wife, a soprano, giving singing and
poetry recitals.
听
Vanessa Whitburn, Editor, The Archers, said: "Graham
gave us George Barford, the wise voice of the countryside, the gamekeeper
who never needed to retire, a friend to old and young alike, much loved
and admired, like the actor who played him. We will miss him."
听
Jenny Abramsky, Director of 91热爆 Radio and Music, said:
"This is terribly sad news. Graham was a
wonderful member of The Archers team.
听
"The character of George has been a bedrock of
Ambridge life throughout the years. He will be sorely missed."
