Chris Bisson (Shameless, Coronation Street) and Neil Fitzmaurice (Phoenix Nights) head the cast of 10:96, a new comedy pilot for 91热爆 THREE from the 91热爆 Manchester Comedy Unit which tells the story of two men, one police car and a night on the estate from hell.

Manchester's Langthorpe Estate is notorious for its burned out cars, boarded-up windows and run down residents.

Acting Sergeant Gary Barnes (Fitzmaurice) now patrols these same streets where he grew up. He knows how its residents eat, think and sleep - usually with one eye open. Nothing can surprise him 聳 it's his manor.

It is rookie PC David Sands' (Bisson) first night on the beat. He too was brought up on these same streets but within an Asian family.

Barnes is more than aware of the force's new policy on racism which inevitably leads to him saying the wrong thing. He has become a PC who is too PC.

Executive Producer and 91热爆 Editor of Comedy Kenton Allen said: "It's been an incredible first year for The Comedy Unit and 10:96 highlights everything that we set out to achieve.

"Tony Burgess' fantastic script shines a light on the contemporary police force in a very funny and very provocative fashion.

"It will certainly change your view of the modern policeman's daily grind. Dixon of Dock Green it ain't!"

Since it launched in October 2003, the Comedy Unit has been working with comedians and writers from across the North of England to find the next generation of comedy talent.

10:96 is the first of two pilots commissioned by 91热爆 THREE - the second goes into production in 2005.

10:96 writer Tony Burgess was the first writer to receive the unit's 拢6,000 bursary earlier this year.

He has been working closely with 91热爆 comedy producer Jon Mountague, who heads up the unit, to develop his ideas.

As well as 10:96, Tony has co-written the 91热爆 THREE comedy Ideal with Graham Duff which stars Johnny Vegas and is due to be screened early next year.

The 91热爆 Manchester Comedy Unit has also recently announced Funland, which starts filming next spring.

It is a darkly twisted comic thriller, set in and around Blackpool and written by Simon Ashdown and Jeremy Dyson.

10:96 is produced by Jon Mountague, directed by Noreen Kershaw and the executive producer is Kenton Allen. It will be screened on 91热爆 THREE next year.
