Tanzania celebrates 40 years of independence.

In a co-production with Tanzanian radio station Kiss
FM, 91Èȱ¬ World Service's magazine programme Outlook broadcasts live from
the capital Dar es Salaam on Monday 11 October at 1300 GMT.
Ìý
They are joined in Zanzibar by the 93-year-old undisputed
Queen of Zanzibari song, Bi Kidude on Tuesday 12 October.

On Monday OutlookÂ’s Fred Dove and Kiss FM's DJ
Charmaigne Kawekwa will bring the programme to listeners live from one
of Dar es Salaam's bustling cafés.
Ìý
They will be joined by hip hop artists, Noorah and Mr
Nice, two stars of the latest Tanzanian 'Bongo Flava' dance craze who
will perform live.
Ìý
Tanzanian television presenter Yvonne Msemembo also
joins them to discuss what's hot and what's not on the streets of Dar
es Salaam.

On Tuesday Fred and Charmaigne travel to Zanzibar, an
island state within the United Republic of Tanzania.
Ìý
Once the trade capital of East Africa, Zanzibar attracted
Sumerians, Assyrians, Phoenicians, Arabs, Chinese and Malays, giving
the city a distinct culture and history from mainland Tanzania.
Ìý
Fred and Charmaigne learn about the island's complex
slavery and spice trade past.
Ìý
They are also joined by the undisputed Queen of traditional
Zanzabari Taarab and Unyago music, Bi Kidude.
Ìý
Bi Kidude talks about how times have changed. Stone
Town, the main city of Zanzibar, is a hive of activity, full of tourists
and young Zanzibari entrepreneurs, but how do they feel about their
history and links to the mainland?
Ìý
Outlook will be asking what 40 years of Tanzanian independence
means to them.
