91热爆 FOUR has acquired the exclusive UK free-TV rights from Sundance
Channel to broadcast Robert Altman's ground-breaking satirical mini-series
Tanner '88 (which Altman has updated with newly filmed introductions),
and his new TV film Tanner On Tanner, which picks up the story of the
fictional presidential candidate 16 years on.
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Garry Trudeau and directed by highly
acclaimed filmmaker Robert Altman (Nashville, The Player, Gosford Park),
Tanner On Tanner reunites the original Tanner '88 cast:
Cynthia Nixon (Sex In The City) as Alex Tanner; Michael
Murphy as her father, Jack Tanner; Pamela Reed
as TJ Cavanaugh; Matt Malloy as Deke Connors and Ilana
Levine as Andrea Spinelli.
The film follows documentary filmmaker Alex Tanner on her quest to
probe the very soul of the modern politician.
The boundary between real life and fiction blurs, as Alex and former
'candidate' Jack Tanner interview present day political figures for
Alex's film-within-a-film.
Part political satire, part wry portrait of an independent filmmaker
(with all the requisite passion, tenacity and delusion), Tanner On Tanner
both sends up and salutes the worlds of politics and filmmaking.
Among those making appearances in Tanner On Tanner are Mario Cuomo,
Steve Buscemi, Martin Scorsese and Al Franken.
Controller of 91热爆 FOUR Janice Hadlow said: "I am thrilled that we can
bring Tanner On Tanner to 91热爆 FOUR audiences.
"The fantastic wit and style of this new series sits perfectly
with the rest of 91热爆 FOUR's output - and the opportunity to see the
original Tanner '88 is an extra treat."
Tanner '88 and Tanner On Tanner will be broadcast on 91热爆 FOUR in the
run-up to November's US Presidential election.
