Point on Sunday 22 August presenter Bridget Kendall will
be joined in the studio by Sayyed Mohamed Musawi, President of
the World Islamic League, and Brigadier General E Lessell, spokesperson for the multinational forces in Iraq, who will participate by satellite
from Baghdad.

The stand off in Najaf and mass demonstrations across many Iraqi
cities in favour of rebel leader Moqtada al-Sadr have tested the stability
of the interim government, as political and religious leaders met to
elect a one hundred member national assembly.

Bridget asks if the continuing violence in Iraq is threatening
the country's transition to democracy and what should the new national
assembly do now to restore calm and security.
Ìý
Sayyed Mohamed Musawi is an Iraqi Shia Muslim who has
just returned from the National Conference in Baghdad.
Ìý
He's close to top Shia cleric Ayatollah Sistani and
knows al-Sadr's family.
