It's awards
at the double for 91Èȱ¬ NI as the Royal Television Society names Gerry
Anderson as Best Regional Presenter and the documentary Christine's
Children documentary as best Regional Programme.

The prestigious industry awards were presented at the
glittering ceremony held at London's Grosvenor House last night (Tuesday
16 March).
Ìý
Stroke City's favourite son scooped the top presenting
award for Anderson In....
Ìý
he four part series which aired last autumn allowed
Gerry to variously explore the worlds of hairdressing, dancing, beauty
contests and music.
Ìý
In his own inimitable style Gerry looked at the fascinating
hobbies of Northern Ireland people in the pursuit of excellence, fame
and fortune.
Ìý
Gerry Anderson said: "In the series viewers got
the chance to meet some amazing people with amazing talents who show
real determination and dedication in the pursuit of their dreams in
their particular fields.

"It was wonderful to work on the series and an
honour to win this award."
Ìý
The title of Best Regional Programme was awarded to
Christine's Children a moving documentary which told the story
of Terry Lockhart, a one-time country star who has devoted his life
to saving abandoned children from destitution, prostitution and exploitation
in the Philippines.

Director and producer Michael Beattie said: "Terry
Lockhart's life story is an inspiration. He's gone through horrendous
tragedy and loss.

"But he's emerged to bring life and hope out of
despair. I am proud that I was able to tell his story and delighted
to win the award for Best Regional Programme."
Ìý
Controller of 91Èȱ¬ NI Anna Carragher said: "This
has been an amazing year so far for us with now three RTS awards in
quick succession, following on from Spotlight's recent success.

"These awards are a tribute to the wealth of talent
here in Northern Ireland.

"Christine's Children, a powerful and moving documentary,
and Gerry Anderson's rare wit and charm have rightly earned this recognition
from the broadcast industry."
