On Saturday 3 April 2004, 1Xtra will return to Hackney's Ocean to host the third annual UK Cup Clash.

Ìý

The event will be hosted by 1Xtra's dancehall don Robbo Ranx and Radio 1's legendary Chris Goldfinger.

Ìý

Music will be brought to you by 1Xtra's dancehall trio Silverstar.

Ìý

The UK Cup Clash was originally brought over to the UK from dancehall's world capital: Kingston, Jamaica. The event has already made a massive impact within the UK's dancehall community and is a clash of the soundsystems with big league contenders from across the world.

Ìý

The clash consists of four rounds - contenders will be eliminated until two soundsystems come head-to-head in the final.

Ìý

The finalists will play ten dubplates each and the crowd reaction decides the winner of the UK Cup Clash crown.

Ìý

The line-up will include the reigning champion Tony Matterhorn (Jamaica), plus One Love (Italy), Mighty Crown (Japan), Poison Dart (United States), Classique (United Kingdom) and Black Kat (Jamaica).

Ìý

This year's UK Cup Clash will be broadcast a week later on Saturday 10 April on 1Xtra's Xtra Live show from 11.00pm to 2.00am and Chris Goldfinger's Radio 1 Reggae Dancehall Nite show from midnight to 2.00am.

Ìý

1Xtra has been committed to the dancehall genre from the station's explosive launch in August 2002 which saw Sean Paul perform at the launch party.

Ìý

The station has also exclusively broadcast from Sting, the biggest event in the dancehall calendar live from Jamaica.

Ìý

Last year 1Xtra hosted Dancehall Week 2003, a week dedicated to dancehall with broadcasts from the UK and Jamaica, plus countless interviews and exclusives from some of the genre's biggest superstars.

Ìý

Also, Robbo Ranx's show includes the UK's only nationwide dancehall chart and is now one of 1Xtra's most listened to shows online.

Ìý

Chris Goldfinger's show on Radio 1 is six years old and is one of the station's most popular late night specialist shows.

Ìý

For the first time Goldfinger's show was broadcast from New York in January this year. He was joined by Wayne Wonder, Baby Cham, T.O.K, Rik Rok and Sasha for some hot exclusive performances and interviews.

Ìý

Goldfinger continues to fly the flag for dancehall by championing dancehall acts that have gone on to be playlisted on Radio 1's A-list.

Ìý

There have been several artists who have crossed over from the dancehall underground to establish themselves as global stars. Often, these have been broken in the UK on 1Xtra and Radio 1 and include Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Wayne Wonder, Lumidee, Kevin Lyttle, Elephant Man, Sizzla and more.

Ìý

With UK Cup Clash 2004, 1Xtra and Radio 1 pay tribute to dancehall's heritage and future and promise a hot night of soundsystem fever.
