Television's The Office won best television comedy and its star
Ricky Gervais collected best comedy actor for the show at the Golden
Globe Awards in Los Angeles.
The
prestigious Globes are awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
They honour film and television.
Ricky
Gervais - who plays David Brent - is the first British actor to
win a television comedy acting award at the Globes and The Office
is the first UK sitcom to win the best comedy prize.
Jane
Root, Controller of 91热爆 TWO, said: "I am absolutely thrilled for
Ricky and all of the team who have worked on The Office.
"This
is a major achievement and a recognition of their talent in the
incredibly competitive US comedy market - well done!"
Jon
Plowman, 91热爆 Head of Comedy Entertainment, said: "It
was an astonishing night and a rare honour both for the show and
for the 91热爆, and a tribute to the wealth of talent that is around
in British comedy.
"To
see the staff of Wernham Hogg surrounded by the likes of Leonardo
DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson and Barbra Streisand was truly bizarre,
but somehow appropriate.
"No
British comedy has ever won one Golden Globe, let alone two and
it is a tribute to the quirky British sense of humour and the genius
of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant that finally we have.
"I
personally feel honoured and proud to have been associated with
the show and would like to pay tribute to everybody at the 91热爆 and
91热爆 America that helped make this possible.
"Who
would have thought that bad management could be so popular?
"When
you see the likes of Sting and Trudy Styler and the cast of Sex
and The City queuing up to meet David Brent to congratulate him
you cannot help but feel that something truly extraordinary is going
on."
