Young
film makers
The
East Midlands is becoming a hotbed for new film making talent. One
of the most recent successes has come in the form of black comedy,
One for the Road.
It
was shot in and around Nottingham and involved numerous local actors.
The director Chris Cooke, who's been described by the Guardian as
the "one to watch", spent three years getting his first
film onto the silver screen.
Inside
Out scoured the region and found some of the freshest young film
makers.
The
Turrell twins, John and Tom, from Beeston in Nottingham, started
making their first films at the age of 11. Inside Out goes on location
as they shoot their next feature.
It's not just dramas that are being produced in the region. Up-and-coming
animators are creating features to rival family favourites Creature
Comforts and The Simpsons.
Could
these local animators be the next Matt Groening or Nick Parks?
There's
certainly no mistaking where Alex Girvan and Paul Jackson get their
influences from: horror movies of the past and present play a massive
role within their ambitious animations.
There
are also film makers in schools around the region. They made a big
impression at the BANG film festival in Nottingham with their documentaries
on subjects such as life as a teenager on the streets of Sneinton
and behind the scenes at Nottingham Forest football club.
Over
the last year Nottingham's Greenwood Dale School have concentrated
their efforts on making local documentaries.
Inside
Out gives them a chance to have their work shown on television.
All
of these opportunities are being made possible by getting easy access
to new technology.
Film
director, Chris Cooke, says the East Midlands is receiving arts
funding which is helping to boost the region's output and encouraging
new talent.
