FIVE LIVE

Sven backs Five Live's Sports Shorts

England football manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has given his backing to Sports Shorts which launches today (15 January) in Sport on Five on 91热爆 Radio Five Live.

Actor James Nesbitt and Casualty and Celebrity Fame Academy star Kwame Kwei-Armah have already agreed to judge the joint Five Live and 91热爆 writersroom initiative designed to unearth new writers with a passion for sport.

Entrants will be asked to write a script for a short drama of up to 10 minutes based on their best sporting moment, whether real or imaginary, comical or poignant.

The five best stories will be made into radio dramas that will be aired on Sport on Five in May, the first fiction ever to be commissioned by Five Live.

Winners will also receive prizes including England kits signed by Sven and the judging panel.

The winning plays will be decided upon by a panel of judges from the world of sport and writing.

Sven, James Nesbitt and Kwame Kwei-Armah will be joined by Bob Shennan, Controller 91热爆 Radio Five Live, Moz Dee, Commissioning Editor of 91热爆 Radio Five Live and Kate Rowland, the Creative Director, New Writing for the 91热爆.

Bob Shennan said: "This is one of the most innovative and adventurous projects Five Live has ever undertaken.

"It gives listeners with a passion for sport and a flare for writing an opportunity to really get involved with the station's output."

To help budding writers craft their stories Five Live will be setting up a series of inspiring workshops around the UK offering advice and support.

These will take place in Cardiff, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Glasgow and Newcastle.

The Five Live website - - will also be a useful resource with further information, tips and links.

Not only will the winners have their work broadcast on Five Live but the writer that the judges deem the best will win tickets to Euro 2004.

The other four will win tickets to a match of a sport of their choice in the UK.
