Search
for a Welsh mascot
91热爆
Radio Wales has launched a competition to search for a mascot who
will lead Mark Hughes's team on to the field in their Euro 2004
qualifier against Serbia Montenegro.
The
search was launched today by Roy Noble on his morning show.
Members
of the public are invited to nominate a child to support the Welsh
side in the Millenium Stadium on Saturday 11 October.
To
be considered they'll need to be between the ages of eight and fourteen
and will have done something out of the ordinary.
Maybe
they take special care of a sick relative, or regularly pick up
litter or look after their younger brother or sister?
Roy
Noble explains: 鈥淲e would like to reward a child that goes the extra
mile to help his family, friends or the community. So many children
help out quietly, behind closed doors and never receive any recognition
for their efforts.鈥
鈥淟eading
the Welsh team onto the field in such an important game is a huge
honour 鈥 it will be a once in a life time experience for the mascot
and the perfect way to say thank you,鈥 he added.
Eyes
all over Europe will be on the chosen mascot as the game which kicks
off at 7.45pm will be broadcast on 91热爆 TWO Wales.
To
nominate a child email walesmascot@bbc.co.uk
or write to the Mascot Competition, 91热爆 Radio Wales, Broadcasting
House, Cardiff CF5 2YQ explaining in no more than 50 words why your
chosen child deserves the opportunity to be the mascot for the Welsh
football team.
The
closing date for the competition in Friday 3 October and the winner,
who will be chosen by Children's Commissioner Peter Clarke, will
be announced next week.
