Robson
Green and Tina Hobley to star in second series of Afternoon Plays
91热爆
Daytime has announced a second series of five hour-long Afternoon
Plays following the critical acclaim of last year's dramas.
Robson
Green and Tina Hobley head the cast of Venus and Mars,
written by Johanna Baldwin, a sparky, witty story of love and friendship
- and learning to tell the difference.
Sarah
Lancashire makes her directorial debut with Viva Las Blackpool
by Damian Fitzsimmons.
Viva
Las Blackpool is described as a mad-cap tale of three middle-aged
women struggling with love, ageing and flying hamsters.
Sarah
says she is thrilled at the prospect of directing actors such as
Paula Wilcox (Man About The House), John McArdle (Brookside, Merseybeat)
and Clive Mantle (Casualty, Holby, Vicar of Dibley) who have all
been signed up for Viva Las Blackpool.
She
says: "This is a really exciting challenge. I am very much looking
forward to working on the other side of the camera with a whole
host of 91热爆 talent."
Also
in the director's chair is Christopher Timothy, star of 91热爆 Daytime's
Bafta-nominated Doctors.
Christopher
will be directing Glasgow Dreams by Shan Khan -
set on a Glaswegian council estate, this is a story of hope, determination
and humour.
The
final two plays are: Drive by Pete Lawson, a story
about a young woman's ambition and the sacrifices she must make;
and Sons, Daughters and Lovers by Matthew Parkhill,
a screw ball love story, also featuring high-calibre talent in front
of and behind the camera.
Daytime
controller Alison Sharman says: "Following the success of the first
run of Afternoon Plays I'm delighted that we have been able to attract
big names and top-quality scripts once again.
"All
five plays promise to be a real treat for 91热爆 audiences and I feel
this is raising the bar yet further for 91热爆 Daytime over the coming
months."
