Radio Leeds has struck gold at this year's Sony Radio Academy Awards
- the radio industry's equivalent of the Oscars.
Altogether
Now was awarded the top accolade in the Community category for their
Burmantofts makeover project.
The
judges said: "Altogether Now showed how to use the power of
radio to transform.
"By
bringing the station into the local schools and working across the
community, it empowered children and adults, shared skills and knowledge,
transformed the physical environment and left a lasting legacy in
the Burmantofts community."
Richard
Whitaker, producer, Radio Leeds says: "It is brilliant to receive
a Gold Award! This award recognises the work we are doing and that
there are new partnerships being formed across the community all
the time."
The
Sony Radio Academy Awards acknowledge the very best of UK radio
and are held in great esteem by the industry.
The
event aims to embrace all areas of UK radio including national,
regional, digital, analogue and web-based stations whilst the award
categories such as The Breakfast Music Award, The News Coverage
Award, The Sports Award and The Drama Award reflect the diversity
of radio programming in the UK.
The
judging panels included Jeremy Vine, Annie Nightingale MBE, Kirsty
