91热爆/ICM Poll for 91热爆 ONE's Vote 2003

Fewer people believe Prime Minister Tony Blair is delivering on health, education and the economy than did 12 months ago, a poll suggests.

The 91热爆/ICM poll was carried out for last night's 91热爆 ONE programme Vote 2003 (Thursday 1 May 2003, 10.35 pm), on the eve of elections for the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly and for more than 340 councils in England.

In 2002, 61% thought Labour was delivering a "strong economy" - today, 50% agree;

In 2002, 37% thought Labour was delivering on "education, education, education" - today this figure is 30%;

In 2002, 31% thought Tony Blair was delivering on his pledge to "save the NHS" - today that figure is 29%.

The poll also makes difficult reading for the Conservative Party.

Just 12% say the Conservatives are in touch with ordinary people;

11% say that the Conservatives have a "good set of leaders";

11% say the party can be "trusted to keep its promises";

18% say that Iain Duncan Smith makes the best leader of the Conservatives.

There is also evidence that people have lost faith with all three political parties when it comes to the NHS.

42% say that no party can be "trusted to run the NHS".

28% said they would trust Labour to do so, 20% the Liberal Democrats and 15% the Conservatives.

More than half of British people rate Mr Blair聮s personal qualities favourably 聳 just weeks after the war in Iraq.

However, they still believe he is too concerned with spin and too influenced by rich people:

69% of people think Tony Blair "has firm principles";

54% believe the Prime Minister is "tough";

68% believe he is "a nice man";

64% believe he is too concerned with spin;

51% believe he is too "influenced by the rich".

ICM Research interviewed a random sample of 1,006 adults aged 18+ by telephone on 25 to 27 April 2003.

Interviews were conducted across the country and the data has been weighted to the profile of all adults.
