New
hour long 91热爆 ONE Countryfile
Countryfile,
the only network television programme dedicated to covering rural
and environment stories all year round, is to undergo some exciting
changes.
During
May it will trial as an hour-long show and, if successful, this
longer length will become a regular feature.
The
new look programme is aimed at bringing viewers even closer to the
countryside, and giving viewers more of a voice.
John
Craven, Countryfile's presenter since the programme began 15
years ago, says: "This extra time is great news - we'll be
able to dig even deeper into the issues which confront rural Britain.
"Rural
issues have climbed higher up the national agenda and our coverage
of crises like BSE and Foot and Mouth disease won us respect from
all sides."
A video
diary feature is also being introduced to the programme where viewers
are invited to make videos illustrating their own experiences of
country life.
Hundreds
of people have sent in ideas for films, ranging from a mercy mission
to rescue hedgehogs from a cull on the Island of Uist, to a bat
protection officer from West Wales, and the real life of a grave-digger.
Sarah
Eglin, series producer, says: "Countryfile tries to give everyone
a voice - and the new video diary spot should certainly help.
"We've
been swamped with stories and are hoping to give as many people
as possible a chance of filming their lifestyle."
In
addition to John Craven, the presenter line-up includes journalist
Charlotte Smith, wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan,
Ben Fogle, former 91热爆 Castaway, and Adam Henson -
a Cotswold farmer who now presents regularly on Countryfile after
winning a competition to find a new presenter.
The first show will be presented from Lundy in the Bristol Channel;
the island is a classic example of how tourism has changed the fortunes
of a tiny community.
And
viewers are asked if they think eco-friendly tourism - as opposed
to farming - is the answer for rural Britain.
John
also reports on how an Icelandic millionaire is trying to save salmon
stocks across the British Isles, and Ben sails a boat around the
Hebrides to report on rural life off the West Coast of Scotland.
Countryfile
is on 91热爆 ONE at the earlier time of 11.00am from Sunday 4 May 2003.
All the
91热爆's digital services are now available on ,
the new free-to-view digital terrestrial television service, as well
as on satellite and cable.
Freeview
offers the 91热爆's eight television channels, interactive services
from 91热爆i, as well as 11 91热爆 radio networks.
