Children
should not bunk off school, Conservative Leader tells 91热爆 London
94.9FM
Speaking
on the Jon Gaunt Breakfast Show on 91热爆 London 94.9FM this morning,
Friday 21 March, Conservative Party Leader Iain Duncan Smith told
Jon Gaunt that he was not in favour of children 'bunking off' school
to attend anti-war demonstrations.
Mr Duncan Smith
told 91热爆 London 94.9FM:
"I'm a
parent. I don't think it's a great idea for children who are meant
to be at school to be on the streets today, for two reasons. First
of all, sometimes these demonstrations turn ugly and secondly, I'm
very keen that children should get engaged at school in the political
debate and I'm sure there are ways inside the school of having these
events properly discussed. And I hope they will do, particularly
amongst the older children.
"But
I think they also have another responsibility which is to stay at
school and get on with their studies . . . As I say sometimes these
demonstrations, large crowds, they can be difficult, there can be
problems and I'm not in favour of children bunking off school to
go to these."
