Swahili speaks boldly about sexual health awareness on Kimasomaso
91热爆
Swahili is launching a unique and innovative youth magazine programme
that will explore the complex issues around relationships, sexual
health and sexual practices.
Kimasomaso
('Speaking Boldly'), starts on 15 March and is presented by Kenyan
radio journalist Tom Jappani. It will feature studio-based panel
discussions, audio diaries, personal testimonies and audience feedback.
At
the heart of Kimasomaso, which aims to break down taboos and myths
around sex and sexuality, will be the voices of young diarists who
will share their personal experiences.
Each
week listeners will be taken on a life journey with a range of young
people including a pregnant teenager, a prostitute and a young person
with HIV/AIDS.
In
the course of a year the programme discovers how they cope with
their everyday lives, the decisions they make and how they see their
future.
Producer
of the programme, Jamhuri Mwavyombo, says that Kimasomaso will tackle
issues on sexual and reproductive health in a more open and transparent
way than ever before:
"It
is about raising the curtains on a subject that has largely remained
a taboo in East Africa but has literally wreaked havoc on people's
lives. Kimasomaso will face the challenges, lay down the options
and explore the choices that could make a lot of difference in the
health and future of young people."
Stephen
King, Director of 91热爆 World Service Trust who is co-ordinating Kimasomaso
says: "This project provides information on relationships and
sexual health in a format that is both engaging and interactive.
We believe that Kimasomaso will increase knowledge and awareness
about the issues facing young people today."
