Radio
1 On The Road
Radio
1 is on the road. Throughout 2003, in addition to the normal calendar
of live events, the station will be visiting parts of the country
that it does not usually have the chance to get to.
At
each stop of the Radio 1 On The Road tour, the
station will set up home in a local café or bar for a weekend
of free, live broadcasts and events.
The
first stop on the tour will be Bolton (28– 30 March), hometown
of Sara Cox and Mark Radcliffe.
Over
the weekend there will be a selection of shows broadcast from the
station's temporary home at the Life Bar Café in Nelson Square.
But
this is about much more than just broadcasts, the tour has been
specially designed to give listeners a chance to come and get free
and impartial career and lifestyle advice from Radio 1's One Life
and One Music teams.
Station
Controller Andy Parfitt, said: "For us, Radio 1 On The Road
is a chance to get closer to the listeners in the towns and cities
where we do not go very often but we also wanted to give people
there the opportunity to get some valuable advice from the many
experts we work with every day."
Mark
Radcliffe added: "I think it's fantastic that Radio 1 has at
last realised that my hometown is a vibrant and seductive metropolis
on a par with, say, Rio, New York or Tadcaster!
"I'm
also chuffed to have Richard Ashcroft on, even though he's from
Wigan, and one of the current crop of happening Bolton bands, Appease.
Doing the show in Bolton also means I can go to my mum's for tea."
In
addition to the One Life and One Music experts, Radio 1 producers
and DJs will be on hand to offer an insight into what it takes to
make great radio.
Following
the first stop on the Radio 1 On The Road tour the station will
then be moving on to visit Leeds, hometown of Chris Moyles.
More
details for the Leeds weekend including dates and a full line-up
of events will be announced next month.
