Sofa
searching urged for Radio Devon's Chestnut appeal
91热爆's
Radio Devon presenter Justin Leigh has come up with a novel way
of fund raising for the stations new Chestnut appeal.
Justin
is urging all his listeners to Devon's Call, his weekday lunchtime
phone-in programme (noon to 2.30pm, weekdays), to search down that
back of their sofas for spare coins to donate to the appeal.
The
91热爆 Radio Devon Chestnut was launched in January to mark the station's
20th birthday year.
It
aims to raise awareness of prostate cancer and to raise one million
pounds for the building of a new specialist unit to treat patients
suffering from the disease.
The
unit, to be built on the new Derriford Hospital site in Plymouth,
will offer faster diagnosis, new treatments, and counselling services
for the families affected.
It
will bring together many of the units already operating and different
locations in the hospital, easing the whole experience for those
getting treatment.
Managing
John Lilley says: "The station will be launching ongoing appeals
and initiatives for the appeal throughout 2003.
"Prostate
cancer is a big issue but is often forgotten.
"We
hope to make a difference with the public's help, so I'll be searching
the back of my sofa for those lost coins, and I urge everyone to
do the same!"
To
make a donation to the 91热爆 Radio Devon Chestnut please send cheques
to the Derriford Hospital, PL 6 8DH.
Cash
or credit card donations can be made at any Barclays Bank by quoting
the A/c no 80766291, sort code 20 68 10.
The
91热爆 Radio Devon Chestnut appeal is a registered charity, number
