Marsh appointed Editor of 91热爆 Radio 4's Today programme
Kevin
Marsh has been appointed as the editor of 91热爆 Radio 4's flagship
news programme, Today.
Currently
editing World at One, Broadcasting House, PM and World This Weekend,
Kevin will take up his new post towards the end of the month.
91热爆
Director of News Richard Sambrook said: "Kevin has a terrific
track record of broadcast journalism including the outstanding leadership
of the World at One through the last two elections and the launch
of the highly original and succesful Broadcasting House on Radio
Four.
"I
am confident he can lead the Today team to new heights of original
and distinctive programming so helping to drive forward the whole
of the 91热爆's journalism whilst also bringing even more listeners
to Radio Four."
The
91热爆's Head of Radio News, Stephen Mitchell, said: "Kevin's
work over recent years with The World at One, PM and Broadcasting
House is testament to his editorial flair and journalistic rigour,
but he has also demonstrated a real feel for the demanding Radio
Four audience.
"Taking
on the Today programme is a natural next step and a really exciting
prospect for the whole of 91热爆 News and 91热爆 Radio."
Controller
of Radio 4, Helen Boaden, said: "I am delighted Kevin is taking
over the Today programme. He is an award winning journalist with
a proven track record and he knows and loves Radio 4. I'm looking
forward to working with him in his new role."
Kevin
joined the 91热爆 as a news trainee in 1978 and, after working in Belfast
and Birmingham, joined The World at One team in June 1980.
After
a short spell at ITN Kevin rejoined the 91热爆 as Deputy Editor of
The World at One in 1987.
He
was material in introducing Today presenter James Naughtie to the
91热爆 - as the presenter of The World at One - and relaunching the
programme.
In
1998, Kevin developed and launched Broadcasting House.
He
was promoted to Editor of PM in August 1989, moved to edit World
at One in 1993 before bringing the programmes together under a single
Editor once again in 1996.
In
addition to his four regular programmes, he has produced numerous
specials for Radio 4 and has won three Sony Awards.
Kevin
said: "I'm delighted to be trusted with the editorship of Today
- it'll be a huge challenge. I look forward to the opportunity of
editing one part of the day I haven't yet edited."
Born
on 14 November 1954, he was educated at The Grammar School, Doncaster,
followed by Christ Church, Oxford.
