Monty
is Gardeners' World new Don
Monty Don is bedding down with the 91热爆 as main presenter
of Gardeners' World, following in the footsteps of a long
line of green-fingered gardening greats who have fronted the programme
including Geoff Hamilton, Percy Thrower and Alan Titchmarsh.
Monty,
an authoritative journalist and broadcaster, is a respected pioneer
of organic gardening with accomplished gardening credentials.
Jane
Root, Controller of 91热爆 TWO, said: "I'm really pleased
that Monty will be joining the Gardeners' World team, he was the
natural choice for the role and brings with him a wealth of gardening
expertise.
"His charismatic presenting style will be a welcome addition
to the fresh and innovative new series of Gardeners' World."
Gardeners'
World regulars Rachel de Thame and Chris Beardshaw will be joining
Monty to complete the revitalised presenter line up on 91热爆 TWO next
Spring.
Monty
Don has published eight gardening books, including the prize-winning
The Sensuous Garden.
He
also has a weekly column in The Observer which is widely appreciated
for its intelligent insights and imaginative coverage of gardening
subjects.
He
has made many appearances on 91热爆 ONE and presented a number of gardening
programmes for Channel 4, including Real Gardens.
Monty,
a Cambridge graduate, is also much in demand on the lecture circuit
as a gardening specialist.
He
said of his new venture: "I am delighted to become part of
the long and successful tradition of Gardeners' World and look forward
very much to taking it into a new era."
Alan
Titchmarsh, who will be appearing in his last Gardeners' World programme
in December 2002, is glad to be handing on the baton to such a worthy
successor.
He
said: "I've had a wonderful seven years presenting Gardeners'
World and I wish Monty Don every success in taking over.
"I'm
sure he'll feel every bit as honoured as I did to take charge of
the nation's flagship gardening programme and that Gardeners' World
will continue to be a must on Friday nights."
Gardeners'
World, now in its 33rd year, will be on air with Monty Don in Spring
2003.
