Sackur is new Europe Correspondent in 91热爆's Brussels News Bureau

journalist Stephen Sackur has joined the 91热爆's Brussels News bureau
as Europe Correspondent. He will be working for all 91热爆 news outlets.
His
remit will include reporting the day to day political news from
the European institutions and NATO in Brussels as well as covering
breaking news stories across the continent.
Stephen
brings to the bureau a wealth of experience gained from covering
major breaking stories for the 91热爆, from across the globe, for over
a decade.
He
joins the 91热爆's Brussels News bureau from the United States, where
he has been the Washington Correspondent since July 1997.
His
insight into the US, its politics and its society has earned him
general acclaim, and he has been a guest and commentator on US television
and radio.
He
also had opinion pieces printed in numerous domestic papers in the
US and contributed countless articles to The Observer, The New Statesman
and the Daily Telegraph.
His
extensive reporting on the impact of September 11 2001 helped 91热爆
World gain widespread praise for its analytical portrayal of the
event.
Sackur
is no stranger to European affairs having witnessed the fall of
Communism in Eastern Europe and reported on Czechoslovakia's Velvet
Revolution as well as Germany's re-unification when he was a correspondent
for national 91热爆 Radio.
He
returns to Europe as the EU Enlargement process heats up and he
will be following developments closely.
"I
am delighted to be in Brussels at a time when so many exciting stages
in the Europe debate lie ahead," said Sackur on his arrival
in Brussels this week.
"After five years in Washington I am looking forward to reporting
from this very different political environment and also getting
out and about in Europe and reflecting how the EU is working for
its citizens."
Before moving to Washington, Sackur served as the Middle East Correspondent
in Cairo and Jerusalem.
He
also worked as the 91热爆's Foreign Affairs Correspondent and was the
first to break the story of the mass killing on the Basra road out
of Kuwait City marking the end of the Gulf War in 1991.
A book about his experiences On the Basra Road was named one of
the Books of the Year by the Spectator Magazine.
Commenting on the new appointment, Andrew Roy, Europe Editor, 91热爆
News, who also worked with Sackur in Washington said: "Stephen
Sackur's analytical approach and keen eye for politics means he
will be a valuable addition to the team working here in the Brussels
bureau."
