New
commissions for 91热爆 Religion & Ethics
From
Nuneaton to Nepal and Wiltshire to Wimbledon, 91热爆 Religion and Ethics
explores the impact of faith on people's lives throughout the globe
in new programme commissions announced today.
In
A Country Parish, cameras follow a young vicar as he moves from
a large urban parish in Nuneaton to tend to the spiritual needs
of a small congregation in the heart of rural England.
At
31, the Rev Jamie Allen is an open-minded ex-DJ with a young family.
This six-part series, produced by Tiger Aspect for 91热爆 TWO, follows
Jamie as he tries to revive parish life in a staunchly traditional
congregation.
The
Hand of God is the first cross-genre collaboration between 91热爆
Religion and Sport. For many sports stars God and religion have
played a decisive role in their lives.
This
documentary for 91热爆 ONE looks at sporting celebrities from Prince
Naseem to Bernhard Langer and the Williams sisters to discover what
happens when faith and sport meet.
A
season of films for 91热爆 TWO explores the history and practice of
Buddhism.
Life
of the Buddha is a major new landmark documentary following
Buddha on his journey from the lap of luxury to the verge of starvation
and final enlightenment.
Shot
on location in Nepal and India, Life of the Buddha uses dramatic
computer-generated images and recent archaeological discoveries
to piece together this remarkable story.
Celebrity
Buddhism looks at the increasing popularity of Buddhism in the
West over the last 50 years.
From
the Beat poets to the Beastie Boys, Buddhism has become the religion
of choice for the rich and famous.
And
Into the Mystic challenges three British converts to Buddhism
- the hip religion of the 21st century - to test their new found
faith.
And finally, a new Everyman strand (91热爆 TWO) tests three
alternative paths to health and happiness.
In
a unique television experiment, these programmes try to quantify
the effect that different kinds of faith and belief can have on
our everyday lives. Prayer, meditation and healing are put under
the microscope to see if the mind and spirit really can control
the body.
Head
of Religion and Ethics Alan Bookbinder says: "These new commissions
show the renewed energy and ambition that are driving religious
programmes on 91热爆 television.
"Together
with the commissions we announced last month such as Mary and Martin
Luther and a host of new radio series, the 91热爆 is demonstrating
its commitment to showing high-quality, illuminating religious programmes
at the heart of the schedules."
