John
Inverdale to embark on whistle-stop tour for Sport Relief
91热爆 Television presenter John Inverdale is doing his bit for Sport
Relief by taking up the challenge to visit every 91热爆 Local Radio
station in England - and the 91热爆's stations in Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland - inside a week.
John will leave Wimbledon on Sunday 7 July on a whistle-stop tour
that will take him as far afield as the Channel Islands, Glasgow,
Cardiff and Belfast and will also cover every local radio station
in England and the Asian Network. In total, the tour will take in
43 different radio stations.
John will appear on-air at every local station he visits and he
will also be providing Radio Five Live with regular updates on the
fundraising efforts taking place around the country as he continues
his journey.
The
tour will also be tracked daily on
with links to the Radio Five Live site and all 91热爆 local online
sites. The daily updates will feature pictures taken from John's
digital camera.
At
the end of his tour John is planning to arrive at 91热爆 Television
Centre on Saturday 13 July in time to start the National Lottery
on 91热爆 ONE.
Before
embarking on his challenge, Inverdale said: "I'm hoping to
raise awareness of all the great fundraising events going on around
the country for Sport Relief. It's a wonderful charity and there's
still time to get involved if you haven't already."
Saturday
July 13 will see a block busting night of Sport Relief entertainment
broadcast on 91热爆 ONE. From 7.00pm to midnight, Gary Lineker, Ulrika
Jonsson, Jamie Theakston and Clare Balding will host a star studded
show which features some unique TV programmes and contributions
from an array of sporting personalities and celebrity sports fans.
In
addition, there will be music from artists including Elton John
and Alessandro Safina, whose Your Song collaboration, a re-recording
of the Elton John classic, is the official Sport Relief single.
Will
Young and Gareth Gates will also be among the many other musical
stars to make an appearance on the night.
Focussing
on the uniting and inspiring power of sport, the night of Sport
Relief will raise money for children and young people living unimaginably
tough lives.
It will be the culmination of a campaign which has encouraged the
whole of the UK to get active 聳 whether through fundraising
activities, by buying the Sport Relief Gold Medal (available at
Foot Locker, Oxfam, Pizza Hut, The Body Shop,
and 91热爆 Stores for 拢1.50 with at least 75p going to Sport
Relief), or by donating via the Sport Relief donation line 08457
9 10 9 10 (nine ten nine ten - Local rate call charges apply).
Donations can also be made on the website -
- or by pressing the red button on an interactive TV.
