John Parrott to leave A Question of Sport
John
Parrott is leaving 91热爆 ONE's A Question of Sport after six successful
years as team captain on the programme.
With
fellow captain Ally McCoist and presenter Sue Barker, John has played
a huge part in ensuring A Question of Sport remains the most popular
sports quiz on British television.
He
will continue to guest present snooker on 91热爆 Television, but wants
now to spend more time on his playing career, aiming to get back
into the top 16 of snooker's world rankings.
John
made three appearances on A Question of Sport as guest captain in
1992 and joined the programme as a regular captain in 1996 when
he and McCoist replaced Ian Botham and Bill Beaumont.
The
former World Snooker Champion has appeared 176 times in all as team
captain and helped the programme win Best Entertainment Show at
the Royal Television Society Awards in two of the last three years.
John
will be appearing in two special A Question of Sport programmes
to celebrate the start of the World Cup and Commonwealth Games in
May and July this year.
Says
John: "I've had a fantastic time on the show over the past
six years but I need to concentrate on my playing career and other
commitments so something has to give - and unfortunately it's one
of the things I enjoy doing the most.
"It's
been a privilege to work with Sue Barker and Ally McCoist - I couldn't
have wished for more professional colleagues. I would also like
to thank the A Question of Sport team - particularly series producer
Carl Doran - it's been a pleasure working with all of them."
Wayne Garvie, Head of Entertainment Group, 91热爆 says: "We've
been lucky to have John as team captain on A Question of Sport for
six years. His warmth, humour and banter were greatly appreciated
by both the audience and all of us on the team. We understand fully
his reasons for wanting to move on and wish him all the best."
