RADIO FIVE LIVE

Radio Five Live聮s Soundtrack to the World Cup

Radio Five Live blends music with football to present the complete World Cup soundtrack for listeners this summer. DJ Spoony, Mark and Lard, Steve Lamacq and New Order add to the station聮s traditional live commentary, with programmes that take a wider look at the tournament that rocks the world.

Rock 'n' Roll World Cup hears Steve Lamacq in conversation with top musicians who have a consuming passion for football. Over the two programmes Steve and his guests reminisce on their favourite football songs, aspirations for their teams during this year's World Cup and their personal plans for experiencing the big matches.

Five Live will also play host to DJ Spoony as he meets an array of footballers in a new series of DJ Spoony Meets.... Through his encounters with some of the stars of The Republic of Ireland and England World Cup squads, he'll be touring their mansions, nosing through their wardrobes and checking out their cd collections.

Mark Radcliffe and Mark Riley are also on board, offering their own take on football's heroes in Mark & Lard's Top Teams. Each week they'll be aping the pub games that footie fans have played for years down at the local, poking fun at football and footballers. They'll be picking unusual squads, from their top eleven players with the worst hair-cut, through to those who never lived up to their fathers, and even the biggest World Cup flops.

Additionally, Radio Five Live has had the honour of having had its World Cup theme specially composed by New Order. Such A Good Thing has been produced by New Order and Steve Osborne.

Moz Dee, Commissioning Editor, Sport, Radio Five Live said: "Five Live already provides the best commentaries on radio. Using its real expertise, it gets football fans right into the stadiums. This new programming shows that the World Cup is about fun as well and will add another dimension to our World Cup programming."
