91热爆 World Service given Portuguese Order of Merit
President
of the Republic of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio, is today (Wednesday
13
February) honouring the 91热爆 World Service with The Order of Merit
for its unique contribution to international broadcasting. The citation
commends the 91热爆聮s international radio service for distinguished
services rendered to the Portuguese language, culture and democracy,
and the worldwide defence of human rights.
The
ceremony is taking place this morning at the Embassy of Portugal
in London聮s Belgrave Square during the President聮s first
official visit to the United Kingdom. Amnesty International is also
being honoured at the ceremony.

World Service Director Mark Byford said: "The 91热爆 World Service
is delighted to receive this highly prestigious award from the Republic
of Portugal. I am particularly pleased that both our historical
and modern role as an international broadcaster merits such recognition,
and that the President acknowledges our touchstone values of accuracy
and impartiality in reporting Portuguese affairs worldwide.
"We
will continue to offer the Portuguese-speaking people of the world,
whether in Europe, Africa, Asia, or South America, services of high
quality and relevance in Radio and Online which improve mutual understanding
in a rapidly changing world."

satellite (Astra satellite, channel 865) and the Internet at .

on FM in more than 117 capital cities; and selected programmes are
carried on almost 2,000 FM and MW radio stations around the world
The 91热爆 World Service broadcasts in 43 languages including English.
