DAYS THAT SHOOK THE WORLD: EVENTS THAT SHAPED WORLD HISTORY

Hugo Davenport

Where were you when you heard the news?

This is the question that reverberates around the world as result of some momentous
event in history. The course of history has been known to change irrevocably in the
space of a single day. Such momentous solitary days, together with the pivotal events
they contain - from scientific breakthroughs to assassinations and uprisings - frequently mark key turning points in world history.

Days That Shook The World accompanies a 12 - part television series, and tells the dramatic stories behind some of the most important dates in history. Enriched with eye-witness accounts, personal diary entries and letters, Days That Shook The World explores topics such as the history of atomic power, the story of powered flight, the rise and fall of Communism and civil rights.

Events covered include the Wright brothers' journey to making the world's first powered flight, the assassination of Martin Luther King, the bomb over Hiroshima and the story of 28 June 1914 in Sarajevo when a gang of Serb nationalists murdered Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, sparking off World War One.

This book looks at what role these and other remarkable events played in shaping the modern world and how the span of a single day can make all the difference in the world.

Days That Shook The World is published on 2nd October 2003 (91热爆 Books, 拢19.99) and accompanies the series currently on 91热爆 Four and to be aired on 91热爆 Two in November 2003.
