Beatles
pip Stones in Radio Times Readers/Celebrity Poll
 
The
Beatles are more popular than the Rolling Stones according to a
new poll conducted by Radio Times.
Sixty nine per cent of the 2,000 readers surveyed via the magazine's
website voted for the music of the Fab Four over the Rolling Stones,
who scored just 31%.
In
addition to the public poll, Radio Times also asked a diverse group
of television celebrities to pick their favourite too, and the result
mirrored the readers' choice - ten of the fifteen personalities
quizzed opted for the Liverpuddlian quartet too.
Advocates
for the Beatles include pop-singer Craig David, actress Julie Walters
and broadcaster John Humphrys.
Walters
tells Radio Times: "I just didn't relate to Mick Jagger. Some
people found him really attractive. Not my cup of tea. The Rolling
Stones were more basic."
The
Office star Ricky Gervais, presenter Chris Tarrant and comedian
and 91热爆 6 Music presenter Phill Jupitus, meanwhile, are adamant
that the Rolling Stones should go down in history as the best.
Gervais
says: "You had to be there for the Beatles: I know how amazing
they are and I've started to get it, but I don't feel it the way
people who love them do. I was much more into what the Stones were
about."
Other
well-known people voicing their opinions on both super groups include
newsreader Peter Sissons, broadcaster and writer Sandi Toksvig,
singer/DJ Boy George and comedian Dave Gorman.
This
week's Radio Times has two collectable covers featuring both bands
in their heyday.
