The Natural Gardener

If your style is to garden naturally, to plan and plant in sympathy with the land, then there could be no better book than this. Practical and inspiring, The Natural Gardener shows readers how to develop gardens that are in tune with nature, where plants will flourish with the minimum of fuss. Written by the popular 91热爆 gardening presenter, Chris Beardshaw, and based on his TV series, The Flying Gardener, the book studies a variety of plants in different habitats and reveals how nature achieves what the gardener strives for.

The philosophy central to the book is that to use any plant in your garden successfully, you need to provide it with a site that mimics its preferred surroundings in the wild. In Chapter One, Understanding Your Garden, Chris enables gardeners to appreciate the conditions in which they garden and how these will affect their choice of plants. In the chapters that follow, he proceeds to identify five types of landscape, from angular Rock Gardens dotted with alpines to shady Woodland Gardens scattered with bluebells, and explores each one in detail.

Complete with beautiful photography and practical information on plant selection and maintenance, The Natural Gardener demonstrates that the best gardeners are those who understand the importance of the conditions in which they garden - and that the best teacher is nature itself.

Chris Beardshaw is one of the principal presenters on Gardeners' World. He has also appeared on Gardening Neighbours, as co-presenter with Ali Ward. As a solo presenter he has fronted his recent series Hidden Gardens, as well as three series of The Flying Gardener with a fourth due in spring 2003. Before his TV career, he studied landscape architecture and took a degree in Horticulture at Pershore College. After university he ran his own garden design business while teaching, to degree level, at his old college. He has designed many show gardens, winning a gold at Chelsea in 1999 for his "Dig for Victory" garden.
