Fact File : Being secretary to the all-party Internet Group
in Parliament is hardly surprising for Nick Palmer. He has a PhD in
mathematics, spent many years as a computer scientist with Ciba-Geigy
in Switzerland, then set up his own Internet service which was making
a seven-figure turnover within two years. He has been MP for Broxtowe
since 1997.

Fact File : Elected in 1987, Alan Meale's early working life
was as a seaman in the Merchant Navy. His interest in politics led
him to become the assistant to the General Secretary of ASLEF in 1980.
Since Labour came to power he has been Under Secretary of State at
the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions. Away
from work he is a passionate supporter of Mansfield Town Football
Club.

Fact File : Elected in 2001 after defeating the Labour candidate
and former MP Fiona Jones. During his career he has been an army officer
with the Sherwood Foresters (!974 -99). He was also a radio journalist

becoming a freelance journalsit in 1999. A
former Oxford graduate, Mr Mercer is married and has one son.
