They will be taking part in the Student National Ultimate Outdoor
Tournament.
Ultimate is
an exciting team sport played with a flying disc (frisbee to the
man in the street). Most players start their ultimate career at
university so the student teams are always exciting and unpredictable
as new talent emerges.
"We
hosted four indoor tournaments over the winter and will host
at least three outdoor tournaments this year." |
Sam Rey,
tournament organiser for the Nottingham Ultimate team "Flyght
Club" |
Fanatics of
the flying disc will come from every corner of the UK representing
teams from almost every major university in the country, 32 in all,
will be present. From Plymouth to St Andrews & Dundee, Brighton
to Aberystwyth.
The current
Student Outdoor National Champions, of Edinburgh will have difficulty holding back the myriad
of classy teams here this year. Not least, their local rivals -
from Glasgow who took the Indoor Championships in 2002.
There will be
a host of teams wanting to bring the student crown back south of
the border too, and stop the shift in power to the Scottish teams
who continue to turn out extremely strong sides.

Both Nottingham
based Universities will have teams competing; FlyTNT (Nottingham
Trent) & Random Fling (Nottingham Uni). Other teams to watch
out for are Purple Haze (Loughborough), Sublime (Portsmouth) and
the (Warwick).
The result hanging
in the balance, the only certainty is that everyone present will
have a thoroughly good time. In recent years Nottingham has become
well known as one of the best hosts cities in the country.
"We hosted
4 indoor tournaments over the winter and will host at least 3 outdoor
tournaments this year" said Sam Rey tournament organiser for
the Nottingham Ultimate team "Flyght Club".
Competition
begins at 9am Saturday, concluding Sunday around 6pm.
With a large
social element to the sport there will be a substantial party on
the Saturday night.
Most of the competitors will be staying on site so good weather
would make a very special weekend for all involved.
