The Enormous Crocodile
The Enormous Crocodile

Puffin Books

In this suspense thriller for children the bad guy is played by a rather big croc. who is out to eat something 'Yummy scrummy' to fill his tummy.

Read the book to find out what happened. Dan Sinclair.

Tin Tin and The Shooting Star
Tintin and The Shooting Star

The Adventures of Tintin - The Shooting Star by Hergé

I could have picked any Tintin book really , especially The Secret of the Unicorn and Destination Moon. But I'll go with The Shooting Star for the great images - giant mushrooms, giant spiders, weird profits preidcting the end of the world.

For a young kid (and adults) it's got everything - a touch of science fiction, a chase, baddies, exciting climax.

And with characters like Captain Haddock and the Thompson Twins there's no way it can lose. Nigel Bell.

Miranda the castaway
Miranda the Castaway

Miranda the Castaway by James Mayhew
Dolphin Paperbacks

Being shipwrecked must be pretty scary but Miranda is coping pretty well, She builds her own tree house, plants her own garden, and even plumbs in her own running water.

But for all Miranda's efforts to make the island her home she realises that life alone is not for her.

Will she escape the island? With all her ingenuity I would think so - but find out yourself by giving it a quick read. Graeme Symington.
