DON'T LITTER THEN!!!
i love any bird to bits. i love pigeons too. but although they carry
disease, just KEEP AWAY from them. or DON'T LIITER in the first place
otherwise there will be more and more. but it it wasn't for pigeons,
then you have RATS to clear up the CRISPS and BREADCRUMBS on the ground!
these pigeons would not have been invented if humans didn't spread
so much LITTER and DIRT to give them these diseases in the first place.
so it is OUR fault for bringing them. they have not done anything
wrong. they just want food to survive and food for their own chicks.
So either sort out your litter or live with them and their diseases.

Pigeon Plague
The are where I live is being literally flooded by pigeons. As I live
in the ground floor of a 4 storey apartment building I get a lot of
defecation in my veranda. I have no possibility to use it as I risk
to get really "dirty". As I have cats I am afraid that they get diseases
from the pigeons "dirt". Can anyone give some advise on how to deal
with this problem - keep the pigeons at distance or exterminate them?
There are efficient methods I am sure.

pigeons
I don't have any problem with anyone who is a pigeon lover. Having
them nest in every eve, and s--t all over every square inch of their
home, on their automobile/s, side walks, windows, etc. Go for it.
I would just like them to stay the H-ll away from my rooftop. I have
put up plastic netting to keep them out of my eve's, hit them with
a stream of water each time I see them, placed a plastic owl on the
roof (this works if you relocate it once a week), but I still get
them. Is there anything anyone else has tried that works. What about
cats, do they do anything to help. I don't like cats but I'd take
one of them over a pigeon.

I've kept pigeons as a boy and am now keeping them for the third time
in my life. They make my life fuller and more relaxed. My birds are
controlled, medicated and cleaned daily. I enjoy watching all birds
fly :) My older neighbours appear to feel the same way about children
as many of you feel about feral pigeons. Isn't it nice the rest of
us won't allow them to follow through on their feelings;)

This is the first time I have read any comments on a website. I am

Killing Pigeons
Pigeons are inherently nasty creatures. They deficate on everything.
If left alone, they can literally destroy a home or automobile.
They are also stubborn. As a result, the only good pigeon is a dead
pigeon. A .22 rifle works nicely, a .177 cal pellet rifle if your
in the city.

While I must admit that pigeons are not my favorite birds, I do not
advocate shooting them all. There are safe humane solutions to the
problem. There are plenty of sites on the web with handy info from
what kind of seeds to put in your birdfeeder that small birds like
but pigeons don't, to items you can buy to make the eaves of your
house or ledges of your building unattractive to these pests, like
spike strips, plastic owls, etc. And as for the people who think this
is inane chatter and we should all be debating world peace, sometimes
the little things are just that important. If you are distracted by
something in your immediate surroundings it is difficult to see the
bigger picture. Besides, if we all sat around debating the fate of
the world all day there would be no one around to do the really important
things like growing our food, raising our children, educating them,
policing our streets, nursing the sick, etc. So get off your high
horse. What are you doing on the internet anyway? Shouldn't you be
at the U.N. giving a speech or something?

I imagine there have always been pigeons in Nottingham and I guess
there has always been some debate about there usefulness. At least
the posted comments are mostly amusing to read but I guess they don't
really add to the solution. Make feedding them unlawful, use covered

should be trapped and sent to Spain . There they would be given

As a child I enjoyed running into crowds of pidgeons which fleeted
in the square as Moses into the Red Sea. My Nana (God bless her soul)
used to ask me to catch one so I could take it back home and eat it

into my infantile grasp using Warburtons stale bread was all in vain.
Keep pidgeons! Without them we would not have the everlasting dream

What would be left ?
I think most people are in agreement that mankind is the ruin of the
earth. The way that some parents allow their children to throw sweet
wrappers with wanton abandenment will always amaze me. What on earth
are schools for if not to educate these little cherrubs in keeping
our streets tidy. It can be done as we can see in other countries,
even to the point of banning the sale of chewing gum as they have
in Singapore. What has this to do with pidgeons i hear you say. Well
i do believe that we as a race will learn to othercome the distuction
of our world through education and long term prison sentences(close
the door and throw away the key). This will once and for all stop
re - offenders. As far as pidgeons are concerned if their were no
humans to stop the tide of pidgeon production. They would keep on
cr***ing and sh**ing anywhere and everywhere they please. and eventually
cover the whole of the earth in pidgeon poo where no other life could
grow and the planet would become extinct, thus killing the whole human
race all the animals all the plants and themselves. so let us save
the world "kill a pidgeon a day to keep extinction at bay"

In reply to

Pcha!! Where did that come from, it seems a little strange that you
have picked my message inparticular to comment on when i had very
little to say on the subject of pigeons. I was more outraged by the
lack of humanity towards fellow human beings. I was peaking out against
those who could not 'live and let live' in regards to those who are
less fortunate than themselves. As this forum was on the subject of
pigeons i merely though it was oppropriate to state that i don't really
have any feelings either way in regard to the pigeons. I do not find
them a particular nuisence as i have no problems with birds of any
kind, however i can see why other people have problems with them because
of phobias or a distinct dislike to being pooed on. I may not have
put my feelings across clearly enough, i believe that it is inhumaine
to kill the pigeons for no reason and in a bloodthurs! ty mannar.
However if people were proposing to eat them then it would be fair
enough, how are the pigeons any different from wood pigeon or chickens.
Unless you have activly expressed your views again phesant hunting
or perhaps even the mistreatment, torture killing of your fellow human
beings then you sympathy for pigeons is a little hypacrytical don't
you think? What also bothers me about your comment is that you singled
out my posting which particular message was on my feelings towards
big issue sellers when their are far more extreeme views on the irradication
of pigeons by others on this board. Not once did is say i believed
it to be right to masacre the pigeons.

I cannot hide my frustration with this speakout section. While giving
the public an opportunity to air their views on pigeons, I believe
the subject has not been approached particularly seriously. Pigeons
can, of course, be a source of amusement or trauma but this is not
their purpose. They're especially useful on farms as they can help
to soften soil and enhance plant growth. They carry certain bacteria
which can help promote the emulsification of fat and dung. In all
honesty pigeons have served nature a darn sight more than most of
the people here. I am completely indifferent to pigeons, but can see
that their culling may lead to a wider problem for humanity and other
species. Why can nobody else see this? This isn't a game, this is
nature.

According to Professor Bernard Manning..pigeon disease develops
with a tickly cough..Blocking off the thorax leading to the lungs

One in the eye for pigeons
I am a trained circus performer but as work is slow at the moment
I often travel to the centre of London to entertain the tourists and
earn a bit of extra money. Two months ago I was entertaining the crowds
at Trafalgar Square when a pigeon related incident occured that has
soured my opinion of these feathered devils. Mid-way through my 'balancing
sunflower seeds on my eyes' trick (always popular with children and
the elderly), I was horrified to find several of the winged heathens
tearing at my face with their beaks and clawed feet. Not only did
I lose an eye, an ear and most of my nose, but the majority of my
carefully applied clown make-up had been removed. Whereas I used to
be a happy-go-lucky entertainer, I now find that I am a bitter, twisted
individual. Scarred both physically and mentally by these scum-of-the-earth
birds. Pure evil.

I'm with doughnut man on this one. Pigeons are no more than flying
rats and should be treated in the same way. However, I agree that
they are a by-product of the lack of respect show to our town centres
by the human scum that inhabit them and litter the streets in food
products and other rubbish. Surely it is more sensible to eradicate
the cause rather than deal with the result?? I beleive that the neutering
of the lower classes that are to blame for anti-social behaviour such
as littering and claiming welfare. If their numbers were kept low
by limiting their indicriminate breeding, pigeons would all but become

Considering that the population explosion amongst pigeons is caused
by the urban environment we've created, it would be irresponsible
not to care for the pigeon population - and managing their numbers
is a good way to do it. With managed herds of deer and other animals,
culling improves the quality of life for the majority of the herd.
With pigeons, many of them would fall to predators in a natural setting
- but towns are not natural and so the pigeons are out of balance.
Humanely killing some of them will restore a modicum of balance. Also,
humanely killing some of the people posting on this board may well
raise the average standard of literacy skills in this country. Punctuation?
Spelling? Grammar? Thanks for giving me a laugh, but maybe you should
get someone else to proof read your entry before letting the whole

that dogs have been accused of passing on to the human population
their nest are infested with flees and lice. But after all their faults
they should not be totally wiped uot THEY HAVE FOUND AN EASY WAY SURVIVING
AND WE ARE THE CULPRITS.

Pigeons
I'll bet those little winged wonders are packed full of calorific
value given all the carbohydrates and sugars they shovel down their
ugly little gullets. Now here's the plan. What we do is to use the
skyrats as a cheap and plentiful supply of energy with which to fire
the power stations. This way we don't use up anymore valuable finite
fossil fuel resources. Once the city squares have been depleted of
this new fuel source we can always breed more in specialist plants
i.e. The Greenwich Dome, Wembley Stadium etc. on the tonnes of waste
food ejected daily from fast food outlets throughout Britain. Safer
than nuclear power, more plentiful than the other renewable sources,
this will lead to "electricity too cheap to meter" and herald a new
golden age where Britain once again becomes the world superpower and
England returns home with the 2006 World Cup, thus creating an explosion
of the "feel good factor" to heights never before attained, where
lame people walk again and the blind regain their sight. Job Done.

Poor bloody things.
Jesus christ people, dont you think you're a little selfish? i think
you should all step down and realise that humans are viruses. What
the hell is wrong with them? They.. fly around.. shock freaking horror,
thats what birds do. So they carry disease.. dont pick the bloody
things up then. how many people fall ill because of the birds? umm..
0? Why dont you quit complaining about them, and do something productive.
if it bothers you that much why not build them somwhere to live. Sigh
in bloody brackets. Sorry, am i being logical again?

Pigeons
Like it or not feral pigeons are a feature of most major city centres
worldwide. However the Swiss are successfully tackling this problem
by placing multiple nesting coops on the top of large inner city buildings
and collecting the eggs, thus keeping numbers under control. This should
be at least tried out as a pilot scheme. Smaller numbers of pigeons
may improve their condition because at the moment they are definately
a major health hazard. The sight of filthy club footed festering birds
flying and landing on our children is sickening; would you go into
town centres and allow hundreds of infested rats to crawl all over
you?... because a pigeon is as dangerous as any rat. One last thing...
people should take more pride in their cities and not drop litter
or allow dogs to foul pavements. It seems the scum element of this
country are hellbent on turning England into a third world cesspit.

shouldn,t there be room on earth for all species as well as humans
what gives us the right to kill them there must be more humane ways
and i think that sending the hawk into the sky to try and kill as
many as possible is just barbaric 21st century it makes me wonder.
more tolerance is needed i think. christine.

Pigeons
Stone, Staffordshire, is a small town with a feral pigeon problem.
Roofs are encrusted with pigeon dung and so too are the gutters of
many of the town centre properties. And some thoroughfares are thickly
covered with pathogen riddled pigeon dung when people use these thoroughfares
first thing every morning, treading the potentially dangerous filth
into food establishments, shops and offices. The pigeon problem has
gone beyond simply a local issue because most local authorities have
abdicated any responsibility for eradicating this health problem.
It is now time for the issue to be put before parliament and a national
eradication scheme put into action.

pigeons, like all other animals have their place in the world and
should be allowed to live. I don't have a problem with a small amount
of humane pigeon control but to kill them mercilessely and reffer
to these beautiful animals as flying rats is disgusting and moronic.Atleast
they don't depleat the world's recources and pollute the air.To those
like Tod, Dave and Helen Wilkinson, you sicken me with your stupidity
and lack of understanding and you are worse than the filth I clean
out of my pigeons cage.

This is a stupid debate. Personally I don't know what all the fuss
is about. They are pretty well trained, when you consider theres never
any bird muck on the city streets. The problem is simply the endless
people who throw their litter on the streets (the very same who start
these stupid debates)- its no wonder we have so many of the birds-
they must think its a free for all. You'll find if the food isn't
there, then they won't continue the invasion. What gives us the right
to wipe them out anyway?/there are other ways of controlling them.

God's little creatures
Oh,dear ! Once again I have to put my views over to all these postings
about PIDGEONS -- Good or bad ? So many have no other object in mind,
except to rid the centre of these God's Creatures. Don't misunderstand
me though, because I hate them very much and the only solution I can
offer is to officially ban those pidgeon fanciers from bringing their
old bread and suchlike into the city centre, and if they are seen
feeding these birds then fine them. A similar situation arose in the
coastal towns, where in some places the droppings from seagulls has
absolutely spoiled the buildings, streets, houses, even cars on which
the paintwork has been damaged. I was in the Brixham / Torquay area
and saw they had erected signs telling visitors that feeding the seagulls
was a council offence and prosecution would be effected. This has
resulted in a less number of seabirds hanging around. You see, they
dont just shoot them, they are deprived of scraps being thrown to
them and they leave for better eating grounds. So come on the city
fathers, put some signs up banning the feeding of these pests. If
those 'fanciers' like feeding pidgeons so much then let them start
off in their own back yards, and they will soon have 30 or 40 of them
roosting on their own rooftops Yoiks tally-ho !

Bloody Pidgeons
I have lived in the UK for 10 months, having moved from Australia.
To my disgust the city of London is overrun by Pidgeons and the mess
they create is apalling. I cant believe the authorities dont kull
them, and I'm amazed that some pathetic ** actually feed them!
it's become obvious that they only survive because the people of London
have no respect for their city, and discard their rubbish and food
scraps in the streets, providing food for the vermin. I have been
putting my slingshot to use, keeping the dirty *** off my window
ledges.

pidgeons
I am outraged by some of the anti-pidgeonist attitudes displayed by
uisers such as Fest. Pidgeons rule, and in view of recent events in
Hartlepool I think the people of Mansfield should fight back against
such attitudes by electing a pidgeon as major.
