My Meadows - Maurita Farnesy I am the Access to work co-ordinator at The Meadows One Stop Shop.
My role is to manage the employment project side of the activity at the One Stop Shop.
I don鈥檛 live in the Meadows, but I live in an area very nearby. I have been long associated with the Meadows as I have worked in the area for at least 13 years.
It is lovely working in the Meadows, I adore it. It is one of the best places I have ever worked in.
The Meadows has a vibrant cultural community, with lovely people. It鈥檚 a nice area located near to the river. It has a lot to offer as a place to live, it is only a short walk to the city centre and has nice recreational facilities by the river Trent.
I like the mix of people, there are students, elderly people, people from over seas: the Asian continent, the black continent, refugees and asylum seekers.
There is a whole fusion of cultures and people settling here, and everybody seems to get on very well.
To make The Meadows better I would try to improve the environment, have more greenery and nicely managed open spaces, so people have something beautiful to look at.
I would like to see the housing stock improved and make sure that homes are well maintained.
Environmental issues such as litter need addressing, to make sure that it is collected regularly. Just the overall well being of the area. We could do with more shopping facilities as well.
I like the job that I do and I feel it鈥檚 an important service to the Meadows, because it will help those who are unemployed to develop skills to get back into work.
If more people have employment they are happier and have more money to put back into the community.
The Meadows is misrepresented, the media should be more careful about how they portray The Meadows and not make assumptions.
It is easy to perpetuate the same myth about an area and not allow for its progress and it鈥檚 development. Once an area has a bad name it seems to be long remembered.
The media doesn鈥檛 recognise the improvements that have been made and it needs to take stock of that and update it鈥檚 own view in line with the progress that is being made.
