we live in netherfield and our house backs on to the old disused railway at the back of jackie bells field. to the right of our house is a car turning and car park,we have cctv with sound aimed at the car park. every night at about 12.10 we hear muffled voices, when we have previously looked we can see nothing , just lately these voices have been getting louder still muffled but its unmistakeably foreign , also music has been playing ,now the music is very distinct from about the forties we were quite rattled at first but we have got used to it now , nothing has happened inside the house only outside,we have听the voices and music听on cctv tape for anyone who is interested. we heard recently that there used to be a prisoner of war camp on the site of morrisons and the pow,s used to get off the train at the back of our house ,can anyone confirm this or has anyone heard similar things happening around the area.听

08-March-2003 Just after he died.....
For the people who know nottingham i use to live on Colborn street
on the corner that joined Blue Bell Hill Road about two/three years
ago but i've since moved out. My Grandad use to live only a couple
of doors away on blue bell hill. My Grandad died and it was a couple
of days after the funeral. I was in the main living room on the computer
with the two seat sofa behind me and my two dogs on the three seat
sofa just to my right. The television was on and i was on the net
while listening to it. As i was surfing i noticed that i was slowly
being pushed on the shoulders from behind towards the keyboard. I
straightened myself out and turned around and there was nobody there.
I noticed my both of my dogs had thier ears up and that the youngest
one was looking my way. I ignored it and went back to the net. Again
i felt somebody push me from behind only slightly stronger this time.
I got up went into the kitchen and got a drink then came back in.
Both of my dogs were looking in the general direction of the two seat
sofa. I ignored them and went back on the computer and a few mintues
later i was pushed again only this time with more force and i nearlly
went face-first into the keyboard. I turned the computer off and started
to watch tv as i was trying to dismiss the fact that anything "weird"
was going. When i sat on the three seat sofa i couldn't help but stare
at the two seat sofa just behind where i had been sitting, both of
my dogs were doing the same and one even got up and walked over to
the sofa and just stared at it. I had to go to bed after that, it
was just too weird!

08-March-2003 QMC
I know somebody who works in the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.
The person knows that i am interested in paranormal happenings and
i've been told of many strange things that happen. Here are a few
that stick in my head. During the night shift, the nurses work a long
shift with a couple of hours to rest in the middle. They have a room
where they can get some sleep if they need to. In one section of the
Hospital the nurses won't sleep in that room, instead they sleep in
the staff room. This reason for this is that apparantly whenever a
nurse goes to sleep in there they are waken up shorty after by a female
black nurse who shakes them awake they says "com'on dear, time to
get back to work" then leave the room. I've been told that nobody
suiting the descripstion of the nurse works at the QMC. Also i've
heard that one time, a female nurse went to sleep in the designatated
room (in a differnt section of the hospital) she was woken up by the
voice of somebody screaming. She leapt out of bed and ran to the where
the patients where but they where all asleep. She thought nothing
more of it, thinking it was a bad dream and went back to the room
to get some sleep. Again she was awaken by screaming and somebody
shouting "Please help me, for the love of god please help me!" She
again got up and went to the area were the patients where being kept
but found nothing out of place, after speaking to the nurses nobody
else had heard anything. Finally the person who i know told me that
themselves and another nurse working there saw a person walk past
the staff window with a dark grey "hoodie" on. Sinc it was a night
shift both of them got up to see who it was. When they got out the
staff room, they couldn't see any sign of this hooded figure.

03-February-2003 Ghosts of Georges Hill Calverton
Over the years there has been many reported sightings in Calverton
of ghosts. In 1977 whilst walking home down Georges Hill I looked
up in the air and couldn't believe my eyes. What I could see, about
200 ft up, was an eerie sense of midst floating around. Also about
150 ft up, on the west side, I noticed a black mass of something or
other swirling. After careful deliberation I decided to put it down
to high spirits!

03-March-2003 house on valley rd sherwood nottm
Ray i have heard stories of the house owned by Sketchley's. Is it
the large detached house that has recently been done up? The one that
backs onto the field? If it is that one, when i was little ,me and
my friends used to play on that field and an old lady lived there.
She died about 13 years ago. She was always telling us off for being
noisy, and kicking the balls at her wall etc, It was empty for years
and years. We used to dare ourselves to go in and have a look as local
people had said the lady never left the house. Someone did up the
and we noticed tennants had moved in. They didn't last long did they!,
Then it remained empty again, boards on the windows again. Its up
to rent again with blowers bro's i think. I always look at it when
we go by (i live on Hucknall Rd you see) I don't know how true all
that is, it's just what i heard.

02-March-2003 Sherwood
My parents bought a house on Perry Rd, on the same side as the graveyard,
but further up when i was 4 yrs old. On the day of our second viewing
we the old lady that lived there allowed me and my older sister to
look around. My sister went outside and i went upstairs. On coming
down the stairs i met a man, standing in the hallway doing his ironing.
He had the iron plugged into the light. We stood there talking for
about 5 mins. My mum shouted me. I went into the living room where
they all were, and told my mum of the conversation i'd just had with
the man in the hallway. The old lady selling the house looked shocked.
She said that her husband had died and thats why she was selling.
They'd owned this house from new, and she was sad to go. Her husband
always did his ironing in the hallway years ago. It must have been
him i was talking to! My parents did buy the house and they are still
there. When i was growing up i could hear footsteps walking along
the carpet upstairs, but my parents always said i was silly, imagining
things! I know i wasn't. I used to have recuring dreams about the
man with his iron in his hand (sounds funny now but wasn't at the
time) My dad used to get angry cos i'd always want to sleep in my
mums bed. I was scared, this went on until i was about 16! Now when
they go away, i sometimes go and house-sit as they have a dog. I always
have recuring dreams about that man when i'm in the house, and last
time i stayed i saw a face of an old man on the tv, i shouted at my
husband to turn it off, but it wasn't even on! The house has always
had a creepy feel to it, though if the spirit is still there, he doesn't
bother anyone. And it's only me who has the spooky things happen.
But i know that the man is still there on Perry Road.

14-February-2003 Haunted Duplex
I currently live in a duplex that was built in 1926. A couple of strange
things have occurred but there are two that stand out. The first occurred
while I was taking a bath. It was about 0600 a.m. and I was getting
ready for work. I have a small dog that likes to lick the side of
the tub and I often put water there for her. On this particular morning
I did, as I do every morning, put water on the edge of the tub for
her to lick off. After doing this I shut my eyes so that I could rinse
my hair. Upon opening my eyes a small hand towel had been placed on
the area in which I had just put water for the dog. Needless to say,
I would have had to stand up and reach over to the sink to get the
hand towel so I know I didn't do it. And if my dog did then she apparently
knows how to fold towels and would do me a great service if she folded
the rest of them in the dryer. I very quick! ly got ready for work
and left. The second noticeable act occured one night at about 8:30.
Me and my spouse were laying in bed and the alarm had been set for
5:30 a.m. At approximately 8:45 the alarm beeped two long tones and
almost simultaneously the dogs (two of them) that were sleeping on
the bed began to bark at the mirror. It scared us both pretty bad.
I normally would have rationalized this as a power surge of some sort
but the dogs were definately focused on the mirror and barking as
if they had seen something. I am not sure what is going on in this
duplex but nothing has happened thus far that I cannot live with.

14-February-2003 school ghosts
a teacher that had worked in my school for 30 or more years said that
someone had fallen through the trap door, on the stage, and had died.
they now say a ghost of the dead person is under the stage. whenever
teachers are on their own in the school they get a funny feeling.
my friend was at school one night and she claimed to have seen the
ghost, before she heard the story. no-one goes under the stage anymore
so it must be true, it freaked me and my friends out anyway!

14-February-2003 Newstead Abbey
Well tonight at 11.30pm Ive just got back from Newstead Abbey......Well
I definately met the worsed phantom you would ever wish to meet.....the
scarey keeper of the grounds with her dog and the silent man who walks
with her, he dare not speak a word, she does it all for him.Instead
of politely asking us to leave, she let out a shriek that put the
fear of god into us.How are we to find out about these spooks if we
can't walk around at night without getting into trouble with the rudest,
big-headed, pompous woman i have ever met. I say BEWARE of the dog
walking ghost of an old woman and the headless torchman!

13-February-2003 the church
well this was probably the scariest thing that's ever happaened to
me before, a few years ago i was camping besides the woods in a feild
with my guide group, if anyone wanted the toilet or a shower then
the washrooms would be at the top of the hill on the other side of
the feild, one night my freind sharing my tent woke up and asked me
2 come with her across the feild to the toilet so i came with her,
on the way there it was very cold and i felt very shakey, walking
across the feild i tripped on something and decided to ignore it.
the next day i walked back the way i had the night previouse, and
found out what i had tripped on was the body of some animal wich had
been ripped into peices, but i just assumed it was killed by a fox.
a few days later, when we were all preparing to leave for home i came
out from my tent and heard strange music coming from the forest besides
us, i walked into the woods and lookd around as the music got louder
and louder, eventualy i heard it very ! lo! ud and came into a small
clearing in the middle of all the trees, and in the center were parts
of an old church, just parts of the walls and a slight opening of a
doorway, i suddenly felt very upset and turned around to run when
suddenly a girl who was on camp with us came running out to me with
some of her friends behind her, i asked them if they had heard any
music and they just said no they never heard a thing then i turned
back n looked at the church n found a small dead frog besides one
of the stones, it's bones visible, only it was very flat, and looked
as if it had been dried out, so i just ran out of the forest back
to my tent, and kept my bags with me, n stayed in the camp fire area
for the rest of the day

28-January-2003 Ghosts at East Stoke
The Pauncefote Arms at East Stoke is inhabited by three ghosts of
various descriptions. A baby cries in the upstairs flat. A Mediterranean-looking
woman is often seen in different parts of the pub, but mostly in the
ladies' toilets. She dressed in black and smiles kindly at those she
meets. The final, and most notorious, is a young boy named Adam (although
how we know is name is a mystery!), who is never seen but makes his
presence known by flinging things around in the restaurant kitchen
and, on one occasion, tickling one of the waitresses! He is not a
bad spirit, just a mischievous little boy!

24-January-2003 GEORGES HILL CALVERTON
I WAS BABYSITTING FOR A DR WHO LIVES IN CALVERTON SOME YEARS AGO NOW,
AND WHEN SHE RETURNED I SET ON MY WAY BACK HOME. IT WAS A WARM SUMMERS
NIGHT, AND I DROVE UP GEORGES HILL. I FELT THE CAR GO ICY COLD, AND
THEN FELT WHAT I CAN ONLY EXPLAIN TO BE SOMEONE PUSHING MY CHAIR FORWARD
FROM THE BACK SEAT. I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR, ONLY TO SEE A
BLACK HOODED FIGURE, WHICH I CAN ONLY DESCRIBE AS LOOKING LIKE A MONK.
WHEN I LOOKED AGAIN HE HAD GONE. I DROVE HOME AS FAST AS I COULD AND
WHEN I SAW MY MOTHER SHE COULD SEE THAT I WAS UPSET, AND USED THE
WORDS "YOU LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE SEEN A GHOST" I TOLD HER THE STORY AND
SHE WAS SHOCKED. LATER I LOOKED UP THE EVENT IN A BOOK OF NOTTINGHAM
GHOST STORIES, AND LOW AND BEHOLD TO MY SHOCK, THERE WAS A SIMILAR
STORY. I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED.

17-January-2003 Skeptics beware!
My husband was a scientist with a BSc and MSc to his name and he was
the most disbelieving man when it came to the paranormal. His theory
was "if it hasn't been proved scientifically, it doesn't exist!" When
he was in his mid thirties he had an out of body experience. He was
most astonished about this and tried to come up with a scientific
reason why it had happened. He wasn't on any medication and hadn't
been drinking, and it was in the middle of the afternoon. He was forced
to admit that there are things that ca't be proved after that!

16-January-2002 Old lady at Newstead Abbey I'm afraid that I do not have a picture but
after reading about the Ghostly goings on at Newstead Abbey I feel
compelled to tell you my little story. I'm going back about ten years
or so. Some friends and I had been out clubbing in Mansfield town
centre and being as I had been given my brothers car for the evening
we decided to go for a drive around in the early hours. Newstead Abbey
had been our destination as we thought it a suitable place to lark
about. It was lightly snowing this night and as I pulled into the
Abbey gates off Nottingham Road at around 3.30 am we were faced with
a bit of a shock. I caught the smiling face of an elderly lady in
my headlights causing my passengers to scream. I had intended to do
a U turn and drive off as quickly as the snow would permit me to but
one of our group of friends told me stop. He opened the passenger
door and shouted over to the old lady who was still smiling at us.
He asked her if she was aright but she said nothing and pointed in
to the Abbey grounds. He sat back in the car and feeling a little
spooked I drove away. The lady had been surrounded by suitcases, which
had seemed a little odd but these cases were very old fashioned looking,
more like woven baskets. After we had driven a short way back towards
Mansfield we decided to go back feeling a little guilty about her
being alone in the cold. When we reached the gates again she had disappeared.
It had only been a matter of minutes since we had left her. We parked
up and had a quick walk around, bearing in mind that it had been snowing
the only tyre tracks on the ground were mine and there had been no
trace of her where she had stood in the snow or her luggage. The next
day I relayed the story to my Mother and we tried to look for some
logical explanation. My Mother called the National Express bus service
to see if there had been any late buses that night that may have dropped
someone off so late ,but there had not. Not long after this event
there had been a story in the Mansfield Chad about a Taxi driver who
had picked up a lady at Newstead Abbey gates and after he had driven
a little while, he turned round to find that she had disappeared.
Very coincidental, i'm wondering if this could have been The White
Lady but I realise she died fairly young.

06-January-2003 Plane
Back in july a friend of mine was on her way back from los angeles,
back to scotland. She is a air hostess for brittish airways. Since
it was a 17 hour journay the staff are giving a 1 hour break to go
through the back and have a sleep. When it was time for her break,
she walked down the usual dark hallway which leads to the restroom.
Once she opened the door, to her surprise, she saw an old lady sitting
at the edge of the bed. She told the old lady that the room was for
staff only. The old lady politely told her that she was resting for
a minute as she didn't feel well. So my friend asked the old lady
if she wanted to sit and have a cup of coffee with her(as she was
on her break). The old lady accepted. Through the half hour that they
sat together the old lady basically described to her how her holiday
went, they had to go home early for she wasn't feeling well, and that
she went with her h! usband to celabrate their anniversary. Just relizing
that they had been talking for half an hour, my friend thought it
would be a good idea to tell the old ladys husband where she was.
The old lady insisted that she didn't do that, but finally told her
which seat he was in. When she arrived she told the man that his wife
was up the back with her having a cup of coffee just incase he was
wondering where she had gone, the man said that she must be mistaken,
confused she told the gentlemen "..your wife Mrs Agnis McFadden?",
the man nodded, "..she is in the rest room having a cup of coffe with
me". "Sorry dear, but the only place my wife is, is in a coffin at
the bottom of the plane, i'm taking her back to scotland to be buried".
She went back up to the room with the other air hostesses and there
was nobody there. Other members of staff heard them speaking to each
other, when they where walking by the room, but nobody else seen her.
As it turned out there was a coffin at the bot! tom of the plane containing
Agnis McFadden. Traumitised, she didn't go back to work for 3 months
after that.

05-November-2002 The Old Man's 91热爆
My Mother and I deciced to move from Our One Bdrm Flat to a bigger
House Just Outside of the City of Auckland New Zealand. My Daughter
was 3 months at the time and I told Mum to look after her while I
went to the New House to Unpack some of our Belongings. I decided
to stay over the night and Tidy the house up before Mum came the next
day. It was quite a warm night as we were nearing the Summer season
so I layed a Bed in the Lounge and layed down listening to the Radio
and locked all the Doors and Windows. Before I closed My Eyes, The
Alarm Clock on the Kitchen Stove (used for baking and roasting) had
gone off! A loud piercing noise that had echoed the whole entire House!
I scrambled to the Kitchen to turn it off only to find the lights
wouldn't turn on.. I didn't think too much of it but I was starting
to get Cold so I ran back to my bed in the Lounge and Shut the Door.
That same night I was once again dosing off when I heard Our Cat walking
through the Hallway trying to get in the Lounge and Scratching on
the Door. I yelled at her to Go Away but she just kept Scratching!!!
I finally got out of Bed and Opened the Door to let her in, But she
wasn't there. She was already in the Lounge with me laying at the
end of my Bed Staring at me in a shocking sort of way. The Next night
My Mother and I and Our Baby turned in for the night.. I layed on
My Bed when it started to Shake..like someone put their hands on the
bed and Shook it HARD! 2 Months after that My Older Sister decided
to come over and stay the night. Her and My Mother got into a Bad
Fight so mum went to stay at a friends house. The Next Morning My
Sister got up and came tearing into my Room yelling and screaming
why I tried to attack her, she claimed that I had my hands around
her throat choking her to death and she was tring to fight me off
as well as trying to scream for mum..." yeah right " I said, I was
sleeping the whole Damn Time you idiot!!! I yelled back. Anyway My
Daughter being 6 months old now had her moments when her and I were
alone in the house. Shes laughing and gurgling and blowing bubbles
at goodness knows what but her eyes were fixed on one spot..a chair
I had placed in the Conservatory ofcourse was empty..but my little
miracle continued laughing and waving her arms with excitment... I
asked the Landlord the following day about the History of the House.
She told me an Old man use to Own it and he was always Lonely so he
would call his Grandchildren to come over to keep him Company, He
wasn't a violent Man but he hated anyone did it...he also loved to
Cook which explained everything that went on in the House...About
15 years beforehand someone had broken into the House while he was
sleeping ( Where my Sister had slept that night ) and Strangled him
to Death...It was Scary but also sad to have had someone so caring
Go!!just like that. We moved out 2 months later but had the house
Blessed before we left, The tenants after us had no problems with
the house after that..they thought we were Lunatics actually.

31-October-2002 Breath of Comfort
It was about 2/3 days after we had buried my father and I was finding
it hard to fall asleep. As I turned in my bed to face the bedroom
door, I felt a distinct brush of air on the side of my face. It was
early June at that time and there was no breeze from outside the window.
At the same time as feeling the air on my face I felt very much at
ease and started to drift into a deep sleep. When I woke I was convinced
that my father had come back to ensure that I was ok.

31-October-2002 Very old ghosts in East Bridgford
My Mum and Dad lived in East Bridgford and I always had trouble getting
to sleep on the put-up bed when I stayed over. The problem was whisperings
which were like voices through a walkman - I could never hear what
was said but knew two male voices were talking over my bed. Some time
later my aunt confirmed a small stream ran under the house and since
the place was the first home built on the land, and the garden was
full of 'plant pots' as my Dad said, but actually roman pottery, I
have to assume I was being bothered by Romans or Romano British men
having a chin-wag to my annoyance. I was quite pleased when my parents
moved - I never did tell them why I slept so badly.

27-October-2002 Midnight Terror
Am I really alone or is something more sinister here with me. It's
pitched dark outside, the light of the rooms' reflection now bouncing
of the bedrooms window pane. For all I know it could be in here witn
me at me at this very moment... something horrible, something terrible,
something with mad staring eyes leering at me, with breath that stinks
like the bowels of hell, with a belly full of evil thoughts and wild
ideas. The beast from hell that glints evil from out of its eyes.
And if Jack ever thinks he's ever coming home in that state again
then the beast of bulwell common will get the order of the frying
pan.

25-October-2002 Haunted Hostel
When i was about 14yrs old we went on a school trip to a youth hostel.
it was situated on an isolated road in the hills above heben brige
( West Yorkshire) there was about 20 of us sat in the main room (centre
room)we were all sat round a big open fire just after dinner, the
washing up had been done and there was nobody anywhere else in the
house. the conversation turned to ghosts. after a few minutes of scary
stories, we heard a big crash from the kitchen, we were all starteled,
ran in to the kitchen to investigate, to find all the pans and plates
on the floor, and the bread removed from the packet and stacked neatly
on the work top!!! naturally we were all frightened, later in the
week we found out that the house was haunted by an old lady who had
been murdered because she was a suspected which. one of the members
of staff who worked at the hostel told us that she had seen the gho!
st! on several occasions. she showed us all a certain point in the
room where you could move your hand through the air, and the air would
change from warm to cold and back to warm again. i thought it must
have been a draught but there was no way it could of been!!!.

19-October-2002 Coincidence !!!
I once went out for a Jog along the banks of the Trent at Burton Joyce.
As I ran along, I noticed in the distance what I thought to be a black
swan. Hovwever when I came up to what I thought was the black swan,
it turned out to be no more than a pile of drift wood and rubbish.
However after running about another half a mile further up river,
guess what i saw...a real black swan. It was the first and only time
I have ever seen a black swan on the river Trent. Spooky eh!.

15-October-2002 Mmmmm
So does anyone know why the spirit world is supposed to go whoooooh...
whoooooh... whoooooh... whilst simultaneously cavorting around underneath
ghostly white sheets attempting to scare people half to death, I mean
strikes fear into your very heart does it not. This image and it's
associated sound effect must've come from somewhere, but from where
and who is responsible for all these terrifying years I have spent
shaking under my bedsheets just at the mere thought of a whoooo whoooo.

11-October-2002 Ghosts
I was walking through the local town late one night when I saw something
white and flying towards me. It was horrible, it had 2wings and a
yellow beak. I quickly turned and ran for my life. After about 30
minutes of constant running I arrived the local police station. I
told them of the horrible story that had just happened to me. They
gave me a cup of coffee and tried to calm me down. They then told
me that the flying object was infact a seagull. Has anyone else had
a fright like this?

09-October-2002 The sleeping cage.
The most spooky feeling in the world is realising that you are in
a dream. Suddenly you can shape your own reality, but things never
turn out as you imagine. Suddenly you may come to the realisation
that you are trapped inside your own subconscious, you may try to
will yourself awake, only to fail and imagine that this is it, that
in reaching consciousness in a dream you will now never awaken again...
or have I died in my sleep and this is it.

09-October-2002 Poltergeist
From 1937 to 1955 I lived at 177 Birkin Avenue, Hyson Green. In the
September of 1954 my bedroom was a large room on the top floor. On
this particular night I was awakened by a scratching in the corner
of the room. Thinking it was a mouse I got out of bed to take a look
but the noise stopped immediately. On getting back into bed the scratching
started on the headboard and persisted until I had fallen asleep.
Not thinking very much about it, on the following night after a hectic
few hours at the Astoria, I got into bed to be greeted by a very disturbing
shaking of the headboard. This caused me considerable alarm, the noise
also awakening my parents in the room down below. Then night after
night as soon as I retired, the violent shaking would begin. By now
I was quite used to this phenonama and used to say "Ok Good night
then, let me get to sleep" Funnily enough this worked and there'd
be no more disturbance until the following night. This strange haunting
continued until I lef! t the house in 1966. The new residents were
named Cairns (I think). I don't know if they had any trouble.

because nottingham greyhounds lights were lit. anyway as we got to
the gates i got to scared so i turned around to look at the car and
i could see my sister rocking backwards a forwards, but the most starnge
thing of all was the horrible noise i could hear. It was almost as
if someone was weeping, im talkin realy crying and whining. as my

02-October-2002 Ollerton Hall
I grew up in Ollerton, a small town not too far from Nottingham. There's
a huge house called Ollerton Hall that dominates the old part of the
town. It had been abandoned for years, and is still empty and slowly
decaying to this day. Obviously stories began to grow up around it,
stories about ghosts, rumours about murders and secret rituals. Late
in the summer of 87 (I think) myself and a few friends decided to
break in and look around the place. It was very much a machismo thing,
we were testing ourselves and each other to see if we had the nerve
to do it. We broke into the grounds in the late evening, and planned
to go into the house just as it was getting dark. A couple of the
guys cried off before we got there, another couple decided not to
go any further as soon as we got into the ground. There were three
of us who approached the house and started to look for a way in. We
had to pull board off a window, and break most of a window frame to
get access - all the time it was getting darker and we were getting
jumpier. Because I felt I had something to prove, I said I'd be the
first to go in - although every nerve in my body was screaming for
me to just leave. To this day I'm not sure if what happened only existed
in my imagination, but at that point I could just feel that the house
itself wanted us to leave. Sweating, and feeling very shaky, I climbed
in through the window. At that point I realised that bringing a torch
might have been a good idea. Everything was pitch black. I wanted
to get out, but I had to look like I'd spent time in there. I waited
for my eyes to grow accustomed to the dark, but as I did I felt something
move towards me. I don't know how to explain it, but even though I
couldn't see I had a very strong sense of a man - a very tall, middle
aged man, quite well dressed man - moving across the room at me -
but he didn't quite touch the floor, he sort of floated. He scanned
around, as though he were looking for something, and when his eyes
fixed on me a shudder ran through me and I nearly wet myself. A just
turned and scrambled out the window as quickly as I could, and ran
harder than I'd run in my life. When my friends caught up with me
and calmed me down they said that they'd heard a voice inside telling
me to get out. And that there'd been laughter as I'd practically fallen
out of the window. When I got home that night I felt unnaturally cold,
as though a draft was blowing around the room I was in. I kept seeing
the man's face out of the corner of my eye. I was in on my own, too
scared to go to bed, I sat up most of the night with all the lights
on and the TV blaring away. I drifted off to sleep, but at abour 3
in the morning I woke up to a smashing sound in the kitchen - a single
glass had been dropped in the middle of the room. No cupboard were
open, there was no washing up left anywhere. Unnerving as it was,
what I've always found really strange is that despite the fact that
the Hall had this reputation, I don't recall ever hearing a specific
story about it. There didn't seem to be a particular legend or ghost
attatched to it, just lots of vague rumours. Would be interesting
to hear if anyone else has a story about the place.

02-October-2002 Spirit in the mirror.
We have a ghost which is known as the friday night spirit. Both I
my father and brother have all had run ins with this phantasm. It
usually appears shortly after you arrive home, and can take on different
appearances as my girlfriend once even saw it female form, it usually
has large staring blood shot eyes, it casts out its powers from the
mirror and somehow makes you feel as if you don't know quiete where
you are, on one occasion it even made me violently ill, its usually
blurry around the edges, and sometimes there are even more than one
staring back out of its mirror dimension, it sometimes even makes
you for some reason feel hungry, taking over your body and forcing
you to fry chips up at half past two in the morning. We are at a loss
of what forces are at work in our house of a Friday evening, but in
the morning the stress of the possession leaves you with a blinding
headache and a strange aversion to noise and sunlight.

23-September-2002 A12 Highway Haunting
Me and my wife were travelling North on the A12, driving back to Lowestoft
from Ipswich. It was about 10 o'clock at night on August the 9th 2001.
I was approaching the Beccles turn when a cyclist pulled out right
in front of me from the junction. I was travelling at 60 mph and could
not stop in time. The cyclist turned and smiled at me as I hit him.
There was a large impact. Imediately after I stopped; I got out of
the car. There were vehicles by this time slowing down behind me.
I checked all round the car for the cyclist. I looked underneath the
car; there was no sign of him. Not even any sign of the push bike
he was riding. I ran back to ask the people in the car behind me if
they'd seen anything; they hadn't. My wife phoned the Police for them
to check the area; incase the cyclist was thrown to the side of the
road somewhere. They found no sign. There was no damage to my c! ar!
, even though I had felt a large impact. The Police told me that this
incident wasn't the first, and probably won't be the last. They claim
that there is a ghost which haunts this stretch of the A12. 15 years
ago I found out that a young man in his late teens was killed on the
A12 after the Beccles turn. The young man pulled out in front of a
car too early, and was killed. The man now haunts the A12 at the Beccles
turn, and really gave me and my wife a fright on that August night.
I've travelled up and down the A12 passed this scene many times after
this incident, but have not seen the ghost since.

September 2002 ghosts
I served in the RAF for some 31 years, 6 of which were spent at RAF
Newton. Although I heard countless stories about peoples ghosts experiences
whilst serving at various stations in the UK, there is one in particular
that relates to RAF Newton. During WWII RAF Newton was home to several
Polish Air Force squadrons. There was always talk about the Polish
Airman who supposedly haunted the upstairs dining room in the airmens
mess people were sceptical. However, when catering staff were working
upstairs they said that they felt as if they were being watched and
heard strange noises and also felt icy spots. One day at around 12
o'clock,my wife's friend was working upstairs when for some reason
she just looked up and to her amazement saw a figure walking across
from the window. He was dressed in a flying suit and wearing a lifejacket.
However, she noted that his legs were missing below his knees. She
watched silently him as he glided across the floor and eventually
disappeared through the far wall of the building. Thinking she had
a vivid imagination she didn't tell anyone about the events. However,
at about 5 o'clock the same day she was again working upstairs and
to her amazement saw the same apparition perform the same walk ! She
now decided to let people know about her experienc! e ! and it materialised
that apparently during the war a Polish airman had jumped from one
of the upstairs of the windows. There are several other ghost stories
and experiences that I have heard about RAF Newton ie duty personnel
hearing footsteps and chasing "shadows" across hangar floors as well
as "happenings" in the control tower. If RAF Newton does eventually
become an asylum centre, I hope the occupants don't mind a few extra
guests !

Unicorn Hotel
While working as an assistant manager at the Unicorn Hotel in Gunthorpe
one of my main tasks was checking guests in to the hotel in the evening
and then checking them out in the morning. On one such occasion I
was checking two Canadian ladies in who were staying with a wedding
party. While checking them in they made it quite clear that they didn't
want to stay in room seven and that if that was the room that they
were getting they wanted to be moved, I was a little curious as to
why they were so reluctant to have this room so I asked them why.
It turned out that the two ladies had stayed in the hotel 15 years
before when they were children, they had been given room 7 (a twin
room) and had gone to bed at about 7 pm. One of the girls woke up
in the middle of the night to find her sister stood at the end of
the bed, she asked her why she was out of bed only to hear her sisters
voice fro! m the next bed answer 'I'm not out of bed'! She claimed
that she was not dreaming and that she had a clear image of a little
girl standing at the end of the bed. This was not the first occasion
that things had happened in room 7. Only a couple of months before
my collegue had been waiting to check a guest out of room 7 only to
see him emerge from his car in the car park looking like he had been
dragged through a bush backwards. John politely asked him why he had
slept in his car, to which the gentleman replied that he had been
asleep in the bed the night before and had woken to find the covers
on the floor, he pulled them back on and tried to get back to sleep
only to find that the covers flew onto the floor again. He descrided
how the covers felt as if they were been ripped off him everytime
he pulled them back on. He got so scared he slept in his car and was
so desperate to get away from the hotel the next morning that he didnt
even quibble about the 拢39.50 charge for the room.

This name is also common to a ghost that once haunted our village.
It was said to roam the old Calverton Hall on Main Street.Indeed it

12th July 2002 Man and his dog
It was sept 1978, I was heavly pregnant, I was waddling up Green Hill
Rise in Carlton Nottm, a quarter of the way up there is a turn off
to the right which leads to my home , I was getting quite close to
the turn off when I saw this man walking with his dog down the rise
towards the turn off, I don't know why I was thinking this but I thought
I could get there before him, as I tried to rush up to the turn off
I watched the man and the dog walk straight through the hedge. At
the turn off you still have to walk about 100 yards to get to the
road so he would still been walking towards the road at the same time
as me, but he and the dog was nowhere in sight.

When i was about 4 or 5 my sister and i shared a bedroom. Most nights
our parents came into our room to tell us to go to sleep, But we would

I remember the conversations we had with him to this day. I miss that

The Rose of england, The yorker, The filly and firkin..... banging,

The refurbishment that has recently taken place (including the removal

financed the construction and design of the building) seems to have
shut him for now...but revenge is in the air.. the place has so many
stories to tell, the manager who fell down the steller stairs, the
bar man ... who chatters away to you in the upstairs bar.. the ghostly
hand which runs down your back, the entertainer who loves to play
with the pa system, the little chicken who wonders aimlessly around
the mens toilets (???) the plates on the stairs etc etc etc....and
still some which are left undiscovered

June 2002 Notts Ghost Story
It was the hot summer of 1976 when we moved in to the "new house"
as we all called it. It was a four bedroomed detatched, with large
garden, and situated just at the back of the Five Ways pub in Sherwood,
Nottingham. The house always had an atmosphere to it, which to me
at the time seemed to be a just a little bit threatening. Not that
I felt anything meant me to do me any harm or anything, it was just
a feeling I had that's all, it was like that when I was left by myself
in the house , I was not alone if you know what I mean. It always
felt as something or someone was close byin another room of the house.
A surreal feeling that grew in intensity, until it felt as if my back
was freshly sunburnt and was chaffing against a prickly woolen jumper.
We'd been in the house about six months as I remember when it happened,
when, I was left alone one evening to look after my little brother.
Micky was and still is his name.He was one of those kids that couldn't
sleep. Constantly you'd hear his restless footsteps padding across
the bedroom floor, , until eventually he'd come downstairs, knowing
full well that you'd have to carry him all the way back up again and
tell him yet another story. I was fourteen at the time, and watching
TV, when I heard the Mickey making his way down the stairs, "ahh no,"
I thought "here we go". I distinctly saw a young child (Mickey) then
walk by the mottled glass door which lead into the living room, befor
dissapearing from sight as usual, as he walked behind the far side
of the armchair . A few seconds passed, Mickey still hadn't walked
out from behind the armchair. "Ok" I smiled "come on Mickey, stop
messing around bedtime" I then vividly remember walking over to the
chair,in my mind I absolutley and utterly expected to find Mickey
there, a sleepy grin upon his face, staring up at me, waiting to be
carried back up to bed for his story. But, as terrifying a sight as
anything I had ever until then seen greeted my eyes...absolutely nothing,
no-one(Mickey) was there. But Micky should have been there. A moment
or two then passed, all I could do was stare at the empty space, my
eyes saying one thing, logic telling me another. Sudden! ly! I unfroze,
finding my voice,I shouted upstairs to Mickey, but there came no reply.
Half panicking I sprinted into Mickey's room, but one thing was for
sure alright, Mickey had definately not moved from his room, he was
one hundred percent sound and snuggly asleep. I just could not figure
it, I'd definitely seen Mickey come down and walk into the room, but
then again I couldn't have, in the end I just didn't know what to
think, but that night I listened to each and every creak and sound
of that sleeping house, wondering, just wondering. Next morning, I
mentioned what had happened to my dad, and to my surprise, he'd also
had a similar experience. Earlier in the week he'd also caught sight
of what looked like a young child wandering about the garden, but
by the time he'd got into the garden to see what was going on, the
child had disappeared . Dad then mentioned to me that he'd recently
been talking to an old man in the pub, a real local character by all
accounts, Alf his name, and a man who'd lived his entire life in the
Sherwood area. The local story teller if you like, to who'm everyone
told their own tale, with each tale then being passed on again to
anyone with half a valid interest. He told or rather explained to
my Dad, that the beneath the house where we now lived had once been
an old lake, (a fact until then had been totally unbeknown to my dad,).
Inside this lake, or so the story goes Alf told dad, that many years
ago a young child had drowned, a young child of five years old. Exactly
the same age! a! s my little brother at the time.

Once a Nurse, Always a Nurse
My aunt's name was Doris Rainbow. She died in either the late 1970s
or early 1980s, under somewhat tragic circumstances. For many years
before that she was a nurse at a hospital in Nottingham, I don't know
which one. She always worked the night shift, and her favorite snack
in the middle of the night was to make herself some toast. After she
died, my family got some curious reports from the hospital staff.
It seems that on many nights, there would be the distinct aroma of
freshly toasted bread wafting down the halls, but whenever the kitchen
was checked, there was no one in it and there was no toast being made.
On one occasion, a patient rang for a nurse and the nurse on duty
was delayed. When she finally arrived in the patient's room to answer
the bell, she was told "Never mind, the other nurse took care of it."
The only problem was that there was no other nurse on duty on the
floor or in the area all night. The patient then proceeded to describe
my aunt to a "t;" he especially noted the fact that she was of very
short stature, which she had always been (and evidently still is).

Mary Kings Close
Mary Kings Close in Edinburgh is a tourist attraction. Many years
ago when the plague came to Edinburgh this close was walled up with
everyone inside. One of the inhabitants was a young girl of about
9 or 10 years old. She died in a very small dark room in the close
of the plague, her ghost is said to haunt it. Visitors to this place
are told the story as they approach it, by a tour guide. As my husband
and I waited to be shown the room I could hear crying, I didn't mention
it as I assumed eveyone else could hear it too. Just before we entered
the room the crying stopped. The inside of the room was incredible,
visitors had left toys, sweets and money for the little girl. Afterwards
I asked my husband about the crying but he said he had not heard anything.

I live in a fairly regularly house, but lately I have felt a strange

the white lady
this story is true. the white lady did in fact exist, and after her
sudden freak death at the newstead gates over 400 years ago people
have kept her memory alive in stories of her spirit still occupying
the place she loved the most. this is one of those very stories. it
begins with a report I was writing on the abbey buildings. I did a
lot of research and found lots of literature on the abbey and the
ghost stories surrounding it. I didn't believe one of them. however,
I wanted to give the ghost hunting a bash. by that I mean getting
red whist walking around the park. although vision was impaired, we
(I wasn't the only one) did honestly see a ghostly clear white figure
standing over the man-made banks of the lake. a short ugly feature
wearing long shall. you think you would be apprehensive and stay and
see what you happen. no, would you (heck), you'd run. so we did, we
ran a fair distance then broke out in uncontrollable laughter for
a good few minutes. thoroughly enjoyable.

The german
officer
When I was 12 we visited France for the first time. My dad and uncle
are very interested in World War II battle sites and we visited an
old German Gun station on the coast of Brittany. On the morning that
we visited it was particularly foggy, the fog was quite dense so the
visability was about 75 meters and you couldn't see out to sea. The
gun stations were made of 4 concrete slabs a central slab forming
the back, two adjacent slabs to either side and a large slab on the
top forming a roof,so they were open fronted with the huge guns pointing
out to the sea. Most of the stations were intact, but I had gone ahead
of everyone else and was looking at one which had been shelled on
my own. Everyone else was looking at the station next to the one I
was looking at, they were about 150 meters away. The back of this
station had caved right in when the shell had hit exposing the steel
support rods in the middle of the concrete, the roof was slightyly
caved as well and the gun (which when intact is abot 3.5 meters long)
was broken into several pieces which had been embedded into the earth
below. I was standing exactly on top of one of the gun fragments,
looking across at the wall that had been damaged. I noticed that this
particular gun station had a rank smell about it, like sulphur, damp,
and rotting vegetation. A patch of fog over by the damaged wall caught
my eye and as I looked at it it seemed to increase in size and density
and began to take a form. A man wearing a uniform developed right
in front of my eyes, he had a moustache, i remember quite clearly
and i could count the buttons on his uniform he was looking right
at me, but looking through me, and then his eyes met mine, I felt
sick and absolutely terrified, the hairs on my neck were standing
right up, I wanted to scream, I wanted to get as far away from there
as possible as his prescence was not a welcoming one. I couldn't move
and my feet were glued to the floor my heart went so fast I thought
it would burst. we were just stood there looking at each other for
about 2 minutes then my cousin approached calling my name and I fell
onto the ground, I got up without even looking to see if he was still
there I ran to the car where my mum was and I have never ran so fast
in my life. My mum asked me what had happened as I was pale, shaking
uncontrollably and crying. I told her what I just told you but she
refused to believe me thinking that the spooky atmosphere, fog and
an overactive imagination was the explanation for the german officer.
I know what I saw and know what I felt. I still get goose pimples
thinking about it now. I sometimes sit and wonder who he was and how
he died and why he appeared to me. He said nothing, the only emotion
I felt in his prescence was fear. I know that he didn't hold any messages
to me so perhaps I had disturbed him from the place where he had fallen,
I simply don't know. I definately believe on ghosts and stand by my
word on this story. Wherever and howerev that officer is I wish him
peace and hope that no one else encounters him in such a fearful way.

Haunted?
I lived in Lowdham, Notts for several years in the 1990s. My house
was an old cottage. I thought I could often hear muffled voices and
sometimes footsteps in the upstairs rooms. My wife never did, and
thought I was imagining it. One evening I was running a bath, and
was suddenly aware that the sound of the running water was 'slowing
down'. I turned to see both bath taps turning themselves off. Just
a trick of water pressure, I thought. But as it continued it was clear
that the taps were 'pausing' just about every two thirds of a turn,
rather than turning in a constant motion. Just as if someone were
turning the taps off by hand. This was over in a few seconds, and
the water stopped. I checked the taps, and they were turned off! Again,
my wife thought I must have imagined it. Perhaps I did?! Then, on
the day we moved out of the house she was left alone there for a while.
During this time she heard the muffled voices and movement upstairs,
just as I had described. Not once did the house ever feel creepy or
unwelcoming, and we loved living there. I never had a sense of anyone
else being there. But these things did happen.

wierd...
i slept at a friends house and about 2 in the morning she woke me
up, swore at me and then said she was going to sleep by her mother.
the next morning she was in her own bed and i asked her why she was
cross with me, not knowing what i was talking about i explained and
she said that she never got up. the next night 10 minutes after the
lights were out we heard the sound of glass crashing against the wall
and we put the light to find that an orniment placed in the middle
of her dressing table had been shot against the wall.

us. my friend was in the corner when she was picked up and thrown
across the room by an invisible force. we all legged it out of the
house and didn't go back for 2 weeks, and when we did the force was

Naked Woman
I remember a local newspaper follow-up story on a 6 month old boy
who had survived 2 days without food or water, strapped in a car seat
as his mother lay dead behind the wheel. This is off of an isolated
mountain pass here in California,2 days later an eldery women notices
a naked lady laying by the side of the road, shes afraid to stop,
so reports to local sheriffs, who investigate. No naked women was
discoverd, but the the baby was. 1988

20th April 2002 School in Gloustershire
I went to an all girls boarding school. A new girl arrived mid term
and was allocated a bed in my dorm. As I was asked to help settle
her in I went to the linen cupboard which was situated on the floor
above us, in the attic. To get to the attic you needed to go through
a doorway and up some narrow winding stairs. As I went up these stairs
a little girl, younger than the age range of girls at the school, tried
to get passed me. I moved to one side and she brushed against me as
she went down. She looked upset and I called out to ask if she was
ok. She turned and looked back but said nothing. I got the bedding
I had gone for and went down the stairs. One of the Nuns who was helping
the newcomer to unpack asked me why I had been so long. I explained
that I'd met a little girl on the stairs wearing a long white nighty
and a little frilly bedcap. The nun said well you've jus! t ! met
Lucy Locket our little ghost. Apparently she was the illegitimate
daughter of a servant who lived in the house many many years prior!

NEWSTEAD ABBEY
Both my dad and I have seen the white lady, her name is actually Sophie.
My dad saw her when he was about my age, and then about a year ago,
I saw her to. It was dark and I was sat with my girlfreind in the
car. As I turned off the headlights a white figure was about 200 yards
in front of us. I quickly turned them back on and we could see nothing,
again I turned them off, the figure was back again. I looked at my
girlfreind and see was speachless, she had gone white and just screamed.
I started the car and we sped of at speed. I have never been so scared
I drove over them speed bumps at about 50mph.

Ghosts
Am I the only person who considers this section to be an utter and
complete waste of space. Ghosts -- I have come across many such claims
such as these in the past both via the media and in person. Remember
these are extraordinary claims, which if true would vioalte the known
laws of science. Yet there is not one shred of evidence to back them
up, therefore at some point in my life I came to the reasonable conclusion
that there were no such things as ghosts. I am not being closed-minded,
therefore, if I dont believe any of these people did actually experiece
a ghost becuase I have already come to a rational, informed decision
on the subject. Of course some people may feel slighted becuase it
appears that I have dismissed their particular belief/theory/claim
out of hand. They may well counter that "I was not there so I can't
know for sure" ot "that I can't prove that ghosts don't exist". Such
arguments are irrelevant (as well as fallacious). To make me reconsider
my position all I ask is to be presented with some evidence. So I'm
not being closed-minded if I do not take on baord every story posted
here, it is neither necessary nor constructive to do this. As Robert
Carol points out "Being open-minded does not mean that one has an
obligation to examine every crackpot idea or claim made". I've had
this discussion before so in response to those people who will want
to write and accuse me of being "closed minded"

George's Lane
There have been many a rumour about the haunted status of a road in
Calverton called George's Lane. The road itself is a long, dark, windy
and unlit country lane, where many accidents have taken place due
to the its conditions and the blind corners. Nearby residents can
relate an urban myth which states that persons driving alone along
this road in the dark often see, if they happen to glance in their
rear view mirror, an old lady sitting in the back of the car. If anyone
else knows anything about this urban myth then please get in touch

After a night at the local curry house, i returned home and finished
the last of the drinks from the party earlier. At approximately 3.00am
that morning, i was woken by a haunting smell, i climbed up from behind
the settee I looked around the room and it appeared to be filled with
strange people i couldnt make out their faces or their shapes properly
but they were definately there. i clambered to my feet rising into
a mist of aramatic herby smells. At this point i felt a strange presence
beside me, it was two spirits: johnny walker & jack daniels.

Ghosts
While living in a large old house on Long Island, NY, USA, I saw a
cloudy, smoke like fog at the end of a long hall in the house. It
scared the heck out of me and I had to rub my eyes to make sure I
was not imagining this.
Supposedly the house had been build near indian burial grounds and
we found many indian artifacts through the years.
Others would hear strange noises.
At the time the cleaning lady was complaining that she felt she was
being watched and that something was strange in the house.
We also felt cold spots and wicker chairs would make noises as if
someone was sitting in them. The handyman complained that there were
footsteps on the stairs and he saw a chandelier that was slowly turning
despite the fact that there was no draft in the room.
The spaniel would growl as if something was in the room and the hair
on his back would stand on end.
After seeing the figure I no longer stayed alone in the house. The
house was sold shortly after.

My
family and i had just moved into a house that was rented. The location
of this house is built where king arthur had supposedly camped giving
it the name now "Aucken". Anyway as soon as u were in the house u
could feel a prescence i didn't think much of it at the time but soon
after we started to hear things and i also started getting very bad
headaches. My brother had came over from America and he and my mum
had been getting strange dreams about Gobblins or elves or something
and also about snakes. My big brother swears he was always being tripped
up on the stairs( whether this has got something to do with it i don't
know). Another strange thing , again i don't know if this has got
anything to do with it, every house i hav lived in is linked to the
number four, my father also died when i was four. I lived in house
numbers 40, 13, 409, 45. i don't know if this is all linked but i
do believe in ghosts, being chritsains, my mum has told me things
about demons and stuff and if u've been in similiar situations then
please e-mail me. ilflexi@hotmail.com

Ghost story
I live in a self contained flat ie two bedrooms, bathroom, wc,kitchern
and livingroom .This flat is on the first floor,my landlady has the
ground floor flat she owns the house. We have seperate front doors
to the property. Now apart from having our living room and bed room
in the same position in the house, the other rooms are different ie
bath room in my flat is in the middle on one side of the property,
hers at the back of the property. But running from front to back of
the property is a passage, hers is a hallway, mine is the landing.
I am trying to place you in the locale of the building, thats in between
the living room and the bed room. You would be standing in the hallway
of her flat but if you were in my flat you would be standing on my
landing directly above. Now it is at this point that you get a sense
of some thing sometimes a feeling, but most times a strong smell of
perfume. My! l! andlady is in her late seventies i often pop in to
have a cup of tea and have a chat,i have lived in my flat nineteen
years and in those years there have been regular visits of this kind.
Like i say i have a chat and a cup of tea and have asked my friend
come landlady about these episodes she as not smelt the perfume herself,
but has said that the previous tennents have . There as never been
any type of threat feeling in fact it as been a warm type.the perfume
as a very pleasent smell to it.Just to add something else to this
i have a cat and he will often sit bolt upright look round the place
towards that point of the property, his ears pricked as if he is looking
at someone or something.

ghost stories
Are these people taking drugs or something?. You ought to worry about
those living rather than the dead. How many people have ever been
mugged or had their car stolen by a ghost!
