Crossroads

Predictably, Britney gets to sing a bit throughout 'Crossroads'.

What did I do to deserve this? In recent weeks I've been spoiled, I've seen some great films, then I have to sit through this, 'Crossroads'.

Review by Neil Heath

Of course it was never made for a 23 year old male, hence all the ingredients of a classic teen chick flick; friendship, love, dreams and boys.

The Plot
Crossroads begins with three 10 year old girls, burying a box that contains all their wishes. The one dream they all want to come true is that they stay best friends, ah, bless 'em!

The plan is to recover the box on prom night, to see if they've aspired to, or are on their way to achieving those dreams.

Cut to prom night eight years later, and predictably, the girls all loathe each other!

Mimi (Manning) is pregnant, Kat (Sadana) is a super bitch who's about to be married and Lucy (Spears) is a bored goody two shoes, which all adds up to a spot of conflict!

Crossroads
"I'll drive you wherever, as long as you promise not to sing!"

However, they still recover the un-weathered box, and embark on a roadtrip together, all for different reasons.

Mimi wants to take part in a singing audition, Lucy wants to find her long lost Mother and Kat wants to surprise her UCLA boyfriend.

Driven by Lucy's love interest, Ben (Mount), the girls set off on a bridge building slush fest.

The Review
It's kind of what you'd expect with Britney. She could easily be playing herself; an idealistic, doe eyed girl next door.

However she's not that bad, well not as bad as I thought she'd be and that's the only compliment she's getting.

The dialogue is terribly corny. It comes fresh from the Ricki Lake school of communication, phrases similar to: 'whatever', 'go girl' and 'talk to the hand cos the face ain't listening', irritatingly appear.

Even though the film is relatively short, it felt as if I was in the cinema for eternity, I wish I'd have taken a book.

Britney Spears
Britney, the queen of pop, apparently.

The most exhausting scenes include a slumber party style confessional, where Britney's character is asked if she's touched 'one'? I'll leave you to guess what 'one' is...

There's also an cheesy open fire scene where conveniently Lucy and Ben are given an opportunity to have a snog, but they're foiled just before the moment.

However, later on they do get it on and Lucy probably got to touch 'one', again work out what 'one' is.

The question that men will want answered; yes you do see her in sexy underwear, but bizarrely you also see her dancing around in what look like men's Y-fronts?!?

The film gets it's two marks because ultimately it's true audience (the Britney faithful) will probably love it. However, there's nothing in this film for anyone else.

Overall, Crossroads will succeed more in giving Britney bigger record sales, than it will money at the box office.

2/5
