Save the planet
by stealth...

Is it the year
of computer games making the crossover to the big screen.
Final Fantasy
is is a computer generated, computer game based spectacular, whose
hyper-real actors give their real life counterparts a run for their
money when it comes to screen acting.
It is the year
2065 and global warming isn't the only thing wreaking destruction
on the planet. A careless asteroid has just flattened the Caspian
Mountains and brought with it a mysterious alien race who like nothing
better than snacking on other beings' 'life-force'.
...Or by
brawn! |
Survivors of
the initial onslaught hole-up in massive domed cities protected
by force fields, and now the race is on to rid the planet of these
evil life-suckers.
But how? - To
nuke or not to nuke that is the question.
The plot comes
straight from Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy game
series. It's a heady mix of war film and sci-fi action.
The entire film
is computer generated, but the results are so lifelike that you
soon forget you're watching a film.
Well you would
forget if the script read better than your average comic strip that
is! Oh, the plot line is complicated enough, but it loses something
in the telling.
That's a real
shame because the visuals really blew me away. The acting by the
virtual stars is fabulous too - it's much less wooden than in your
average Hollywood flick.
For me, a fan of
animation, and Japanese Manga animation in particular, it was great
eye candy, but that's not enough on it's own. I left feeling it was
good but could do better.
