Another
one of those films which will be talked about as "the
next Four Weddings and a Funeral."
The truth is, it can stand proud in its own right. |
|
|
Adapting
Helen Fielding's best selling book about a year in the life
of a slightly dumpy, cigarette smoking, wine swigging, 30
something, single woman was always an odds on success.

Wait
till I tell the folks back home about Tesco |
Throw
in script writer Richard Curtis (of Four Weddings and
Notting Hill fame) and you've an absolute winner.
There's
something for everyone in this movie. Renee for the boys (OK
she's not a cracker but there's something about her) and Hugh
and Colin for the girls.
When Zellweger
was cast as Bridget Jones there was great outcry that the
part hadn't gone to a British actress. But she's risen to
the occasion and even piled on the pounds to give her that
cuddly look.
I
am enthralled by this movie. I must confess that I love
the whole "chick flick" genre and this movie is one
of the best that I have seen in a long while.
It's not just that Hugh Grant is so sexy in it and Colin
Firth makes me weak in the knees....the whole film is
a comment on every woman from 25-40.
We
are a generation of misfits and love sick fools...but
soo cute. I recommend this film to all.

Colin
Firth is Colin Firth. It's ironical he plays Mark Darcy since
this is very close to the Mr. Darcy of his Pride and Prejudice
fame.
The revelation
in Bridget is Hugh Grant. No Mr Nice Guy, bumble bumble,
can't quite find the right words, character in this production.
Hugh is
a cad. Hugh is a love rat and Hugh revels in his part.
This is
going to be a big box office winner for several months. There
have already been countless newspaper articles looking for
real life Bridget Jones.

I've
got the fag now someone get me another drink |
There
is also an excellent soundtrack, with contributions from Robbie
Williams and Geri Halliwell, which will have singles popping
in and out of the charts (and therefore keeping the film in
the spotlight) for many weeks.
It'll
all be well deserved. This is funny, romantic but not overly
slushy. Crack open the Chardonnay.

Absolute delight. Bravo to
Renee Zelweger you did a fine job indeed. And I really
think the part of Mark Darcy was written for Colin Firth
(the undisputed Mr. Darcy -himself), no one else could
play the role with such understated brilliance, and
just plain sex appeal. Yummy!!! And Hugh Grant was simply
Hugh Grant. The trio of Bridgets' closet friends were
hilarious. I laughed my head off and fell in love at
the same time!! What a delicious combination, may have
a sequel please!!!

I liked very much Bridget Jones's Diary, but I was
realy surprised with the pressence of Colin Firth, this
guy is lovely, handsome, wonderful. The first time I
saw him was in Pride and Prejudice, and I like him,
but I thought he was an unknown actor. After I saw the
kiss he gives Bridget at the end of the film, I started
to be in love with him, then a searched in the internet
for all his films, and I found that he has made a lot
of them. It's a pitty he's married, but now I'm his
fan.

Funny
funny film. Renee Zellweger is perfect as Bridget, texan or
not, she IS Bridget. I'm not usually a fan of Hugh Grant but
this time his bumbling idiocy made me laugh and of course, then
there's Colin Firth! Sooo charming and sweet. We all asked for
a Mr.Darcy after Pride & Prejudice, now we are all begging for
one. Is he the cutest or what? This is one film I intend to
watch time and again. This gives hope to every single woman
out there but for the fact that Colin Firth is happily married!

A
wonderful effort - almost makes me wish I was single again -
if only the likes of Colin Firth were around to lust after you!!
I thought Renee Zellwegger was fantastic at being a rough around
the edges British girl. I say more cellulite should be shown
in the cinema. Colin Firth reprises his Mr Darcy persona with
absolute brilliance, and the film is littered with Pride and
Prejudice references. For a wonderful evenings entertainment
I would recommend you catch this film now - and then buy it
on video in a few months so you can cheer yourself up with a
good laugh any time at home.

As an American, I was a bit surprised that the role
of Bridget hadn't gone to a British actress. However,
Renee Zellweger was convincing to us on this side of
the Atlantic. We're well used to Hugh Grant, but this
role was a great departure from his usual fare (although
we love that too!). Colin Firth the most lovely surprise,
there's something wonderful to be said for the strong
silent type, and this helped America to appreciate him
a bit more. (we had to get the horrid Lord Wessex and
Simon Westward out of our heads!) I hadn't read the
novel, but as soon as I saw the movie, I had to buy
the books of this one and the sequel. Hopefully the
movie's sequel won't be too far off for the newly addicted
Bridget-ites...

Dragged my husband to this movie. He was worried
that it was a chick flick(which it was) but he liked
it anyway. I loved the movie and then read the Bridget
Jones Diaries' series and enjoyed that immensely! I
loved the acting by Renee and Hugh but I must say gorgeous
Colin Firth was the best. Where the hell did he come
from? After seeing the movie, I found out he was in
the "Pride and Prejudice TV series that I never
heard of and promptly bought the videos and loved that
series even more. I'm still in love with my husband
but I'm in lust with Colin. Wonderful. Can't wait for
the sequel to the Bridget Jones'movie.
