Reggie Kray - who's he?
Where do you go after a runaway success like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels?
The answer is simple. Remake it with a few alterations.

Guy Ritchie has never looked back. A few more films like Lock, Stock... and he might even stop being called Mr. Madonna.

Sadly Snatch is unlikely to boost his profile, especially as Ms.Ciccone is again stealing the headlines having just given birth to a baby boy and enjoying another number one hit with Music.

It's not that Snatch is a bad film, it just had so much to live up to.

What you have is several stories which eventually weave into a whole. So there is a diamond heist, illegal boxing promoters, a colourful Irish gypsy and a dog!

Vinnie "Bullet Proof" Jones
Don't you know smoking's bad for you

This brings its own problems. If anything there are too many characters and many are not at all interesting.

But all is not lost. Brad Pitt is the big name Hollywood movie star who in Snatch plays One Punch Mickey, an Irish gypsy who you don't mess around with.

Not that you'd want to mess with any of the characters, especially Bullet tooth Tony, another hard act portrayed by former footballer Vinnie Jones.

Keep an eye out for Eastenders Mike Reid, who has temporarily left the Queen Vic behind, to play the role of diamond dealer Doug the Head. What would Peggy, or indeed Pat, say??

Snatch is better than Lock, Stock the television series but will always pale into the shadows when pitted against Guy Ritchie's original movie.

3/5
