At
least Nick Hornby's cult classic novel Fever Pitch remained
based in England when turned into a feature film. Not
so High Fidelity. Our hero's record shop is moved from
North London to Chicago but other than that little has
changed.
Rob (John
Cusack) is music mad. He sells records, his friends talk of
nothing else. That would be fine if thirtysomething Rob was
not also looking for true love.
The film
begins as Laura (Iben Hjejle) is ending their long-term relationship.
In desperation Rob attempts to track down his former girlfriends
to find out just why he is such a hopeless partner.
The stage
is set for scenes which will be familiar to most people who
have suffered in the name of love.
An 80's
soundtrack ensures the audience a trip down memory lane and
look out for cameos from Bruce Springsteen and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
