Visitors to Nunnington Hall can see an exhibition of photographs by the man who took it. 91热爆 Radio York's Jonathan Cowap was allowed a sneak preview of the Patrick Lichfield exhibition and whilst there got the chance to meet Marsha Hunt. Marsha is a novelist, singer, actress and model, but is perhaps most famous for the nude photograph she posed for in 1968 for Patrick Lichfield.
Help playing audio/video It was taken shortly after the opening of 'Hair', the famous musical in which she starred. 'Hair' was very controversial and featured scenes of nudity, which shocked the nation. It opened on 27 September 1968, just one day after the abolition of theatre censorship in the UK! Marsha鈥檚 nude photo appeared on the cover of British Vogue's January 1969 issue. Almost 40 years later she again posed nude for Lichfield, recreating the pose for her Vogue Magazine cover. Second time around, the picture was taken just five weeks after she'd had her right breast and lymph glands removed to halt the spread of cancer. Marsha was diagnosed with cancer in 2004 and was told to have surgery to remove her right breast and her lymph nodes. She decided to have a complete mastectomy with no following reconstruction. Jonathan says, 鈥淢arsha had a very direct approach to discussing the experience of having a breast removed.
