The Wheatlands Educational and Community Woodland is teeming with wildlife just waiting for you to uncover. Find out how you can get involved.  Wheatlands Educational and Community Woodland is situated off the A59 (alongside the A1237 York Ring Road) behind Wyevale Garden Centre. The entrance is on Northfield Lane, Poppleton. The farm and woodland site demonstrates how good agricultural practice can conserve, improve and create a suitable habitat for flora and fauna.
Many species of wildflower, mammal, bird, plant, beetle, arachnids and insects have been recorded in this carefully managed woodland and meadow. The Small Heath butterfly was spotted in 2005, as was the Brown Argus, not recorded in York for over 200 years, also over 85 species of wildflowers recorded to date. There is an educational woodland and wildlife discovery trail with over 30听hedgehog, bird and bat boxes, information boards and leaflets at fascinating points of interest along the walk. Our woodland group manage over 5000 native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, grasses organising information and events. We're in need of volunteers so please contact us if you're interested in getting involved.
