The wider public got their chance to express their views on the killings when trade unions organised silent rallies in Derry, Belfast and Newry. Gareth Scott, the regional national organiser with the Union Unite, said the actions of so called Dissident republicans were "not in our name". |

Pensioners caught up in a security alert in Derry's Waterside said they feared a return to the worst days of the Troubles. Several homes in Bann Drive were evacuated while the police and army dealt with a suspicious object found in a lay-by near the Irish Street interface. It was declared an elaborate hoax but as our reporter Teresa Craig discovered, the alert unsettled people in the area. |
