The maiden voyage of a B17 bomber, known as the "Meltin' Pot" ended in tragedy in 1942. Nearly sixty years later, the plane was rediscovered, by members of the Inishowen Sub Aqua Club

THE MELTIN' POT

In 1942, a B17 bWilliam Curtis Melton, Captain of the Meltin' Pot, and Elizabeth Ferguson, who came to the aid of the crashed plane. Picture courtesy Inishowen Sub Aqua Clubomber which was known as 鈥淭he Meltin鈥 Pot鈥 crashed into the sea off Donegal after its engines caught fire. A local girl who spotted it managed to save some of the crew, by rowing out to the crash site. The remains were undisturbed until 2001. Seamus Carey, who discovered it, and Danny Farren, both from Inishowen Sub Aqua Club spoke to Mark Patterson.
