Can you use the power of football to tackle antisocial behaviour? If you involve the police and other emergency services, could it change attitudes? And, given that the police are still not accepted by some, could it work here? A consultation on what could become an important local initiative is launched on the Paul McFadden Show.

Paul's discussion involved two government ministers, a local police commander, the chief executive of an English championship side, and representatives of Derry City Football Club.

ANTISOCIAL

Eamon Deane, the Chairman of Football in the Community, explains how "Teenage Kickz" could have an impact on antisocial behaviour among young people.

2 MINISTERS

Paul suggested to Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, that this was a particularly challenging idea because of the relationship with the police.

CRIME REDUCTION

Paul heard that "T Pat McDaid, Supt Paul Douglas,Eamon Deane, Martin McGuinness, Dermot Desmond, and Micheal Martin eenage Kickz" has already successfully reduced criminal behaviour in cities across Great Britain. He discussed the possibilities with Pat McDaid, the Chairman of Derry City Football Club, Dermot Desmond, the club's Promotions Officer, PSNI Superintendent Paul Douglas.

PARTNERSHIP

The initiative is effectively led at present by Derry City Football Club. But would it involve people from outside the west bank of the city - in Institute, for example? Football in the Community started in Charlton Athletic - and it's now a great success. Steve Waggott from the club explained how it all started.
