Derry City Council's plan to save money by closing civic amenity sites in Brandywell and Eglinton provoked an angry reaction from many in both areas.
Ìý
The council says the sites must close in order to meet "efficiency savings" of £1.5m. They're due to close permanently at the end of March.

LOWER RATES
Derry City Councillors say they took the decision to shut Eglinton and Brandywell dumps to keep the rates low. But at least one shows signs of changing his mind. Councillor Thomas Conway says Eglinton does need a recycling service. He spoke to Sarah Brett along with other councillors. |

At Eglinton 200 residents, and Eamon McCann, gathered to protest against the closure. They said they would hold protests and petitions.
