"A hundred and ten years of service at an end." That was The closure of acute services at Omagh will mean ambulance journeys for some patients. how a consultant described the situation at the Tyrone County hospital in Omagh, at a vigil to mark the official end of acute in-patient care there. It means some people who need urgent medical help will have to travel to Enniskillen or Derry. Louise Cullen reports.

The Western Health and Social Care Trust is insisting that the network of services available now is adequate. A new acute hospital in Enniskillen won't be completed until 2012. But Joe Lusby, the Trust's Deputy Chief Executive, says that's not really so long to wait.
